Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:
"I have no idea lad," grunts the Dwarf, "guess we had better assist as can or we be in the dungeon with Mavis. Which might not be a bad idea, she got good Dwarven hips for a Human, ach I drift!"
Actions:
He hefts his club and waits.

Sergeant Klemitz is about to order his men to the door when Firdle mentions Klarrrrchur.
The sarge is about to reply, glances at the Dwarf then considers. "Aye." he says, stepping back.
BOOM!
A single leg kicked out in the middle CRACKS whatever is on the other side and the Sargeant steps in, pulling open the remains.
"Useful." said the Sergeant with a nod to the Dwarf as he steps aside and lets the Captain step in. Then he steps into the doorway to bar the way whilst his commander has a first look.
Firdle, Will and Klarrrrchur aren't far behind the Captain and see in the gaps past the Sarge who is a big shape in the doorway, it has to be said.
OOC Klarrrrchur smashes through the door. L3SR passed (with ease) on Str. 30AP earned. IQ check failed 8AP. LK check failed 6AP.
Klarrrrchur is on 111AP
Firdle passes a L1 IQ Check 9AP earned.
IQ POINTS 1) Firdle sees across the room to where a window is slightly ajar and curtains mostly drawn and on the floor are discarded peanut shells and dust as if someone has tried to clean up behind them
Firdle passes a L2 LK Check 40AP earned (34 + 20%)
LK POINTS 1) En route to the Town Square Firdle recalls a barrow seller flogging nuts, fruit and veg 2) There was someone in a brown cloak and hood buying something from the barrow seller. Firdle couldn't help but think that whoever was under that must be sweating buckets as it's a really warm (thirty odd degrees) day. About six foot tall or just short, slim. Didn't see the face or get other details.
Firdle is on 166AP
Will just about manages to remember his name and considers exchanging notes with Petrik on how to be thoroughly useless apart from swinging a bit of wood about.
You still earn 11AP from making me laugh out loud and snort my cup of tea when reading the post.
Will on 75AP.
The room is sparse, unslept in. A bed, a table, chair, wood box for possessions. One window in/out the place. Behind the door was a chair jammed up against it, now with smashed legs and broken on the floor.
Franick stands in the centre of the room, slowly looking about. He steps over to the window, looking where he steps. With a dagger he moves the curtain to the side and looks out into the square. "Hmmm." He says.
He turns to Sgt Klemitz. "Post a guard on the door Sergeant." He turns to the party and considers then waves them in. "Let them in."
"Do I have to?" asks Morgan. "I only just got here and I thank you for your aid but I don't know what's going on. I was told to sign on with Rathmere but if he's dead I need to find work and somewhere to stay."
"Cold." mutters Klemitz.
Franick glances at his Sergeant then considers. "Alright. Details with Jines. You?"
"Me?" says Petrik.
"Yes." said Franick, sighing.
A Silence stretched out as Petrik met Franicks gaze with a vacant stare then the Captain rolled his eyes and turned to Firdle, Will and Klarrrrchur. "You three then. Touch nothing. What happened here? Thoughts? Any theories on who, what, why? Rathmere is a man with enemies but in Jepistra the code is clear, Iron, even. Someone risked swinging from a towns edge tree by their neck to kill Rathmere."
He stands with arms crossed.

Will Darness Scratches his head,. A cloud of dust and small insects flies out of his hair.
" I reckon... " he says slowly. "Someone didn't want Rathmere to make this trip. I mean, really didn't want him to make th' trip. Was there anythin' special about it?" He gazes helplessly at the wall. The insects settle again. " Could just be someone didn't like his dress sense, o'course. "
ACTIONS Having failed to spot anything going on around him, Will has nothing more to offer at this point.

Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:
Klarrrrchur nods at the Sargent and part gruff at the compliment. “You and us both Lady,” states the Dwarf indicating his two new comrades with a slight flick of his head. But he was distracted by the request to entered the room with the two Humans, one called Firdle; a Wizard and a lad who had not introduced himself. He looked around him, but saw nothing of interest. “Still an agile person,” states Klarrrrchur, “he either made it to the roof or flew invisible across the square. I had not taken my eyes from that window for a few minutes in the confusion!” Actions: Dwarf... scratches his head... ah, @ houndle: just what I was thinking.

Firdle "Curious" walks over to point out the peanut shells and dust to Franick. "I think we are looking for someone WITHOUT a nut allergy!"
Looks thoughtful as re recalls something. "But on a more useful note. There was a rather overdressed person buying from a barrow-seller not far from here. He was quite tall, hooded brown cloak, and the vendor sold nuts. It's a slim lead but it may be related. From their manner of dress I'd say they did not want to be recognised or were concealing something."
Actions Looks out of the window to see what is below. Is there anyone out there they may have noticed someone climbing out?

Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:
The Dwarf followed Firdle to the window to look out to the bazaar. In this heat a Human in disguise as hooded man had something to hide, “perhaps a living skeleton,” he more mutters to himself, “I hear, for I have never seen; that though not undead, they have the appearance of such and hide their how they look?”
“He would want to confirm his kill, so he will wait to learn of his death before moving on!”
Actions:
Klarrrrchur attempts a scan crowd: rolls 2d6+13 (LK) = 5 +2 + 13 = 20.

Captain Franick seems to listen to all the comments without commenting himself as if appraising the party. Finally he speaks.
To Will Darness he nods "Rathmere is a man with enemies. Once upon a time he was a Pirate, and a good one. By that I mean he was successful at evading capture and tracking prize vessels to hunt down. He was always charismatic and men eagerly followed him but something happened. He turned himself in unexpectedly and handed over information that allowed the authorities to prevent what would have been a catastrophic raid by a coalition of Pirates. His crimes were not only pardoned but he found himself in the lucrative position of Quartermaster for the Sonan IE trading fleet in this part of the world."
"He is a rich man and doesn't need to work. He has a lot of enemies not only from his former life but this one as well. He recruits those with... talent... and he has an uncanny eye for it. Despite some occasional setbacks out of his control since he took over recruitment and provisioning of the Sonan fleet their profits have soared and Pirate attacks, whilst continuing, are pretty much doomed to failure."
He pulls the curtain aside again with his dagger. Will notes the blade is silver and razor sharp, the hilt encrusted with a gem and some sort of family crest. He turns to the Dwarf. "Whomever the assassin was didn't come out the way they came in, that much is true." He looks about at those in the room. "Only you and you" he says, looking at Will and Firdle, "Would find it easy to climb from this narrow window. The rest of us are too large or stocky or both." he said with a glance at the Sergeant.
He listens to Klarrrrchur and nods. "I suspect our assassin took to the rooftops. Agile, fast and able to climb. Light too. Some of these roofs have seen better days as the storms round here can blow some." Franick turns to near the doorway where Klemitz is stood.
"Sergeant! Have Corporal Jakes ask about. Witnesses. Anyone see anything. Loosen tongues with rum or silver from the kitty." said Franick.
"Aye Sir. He'll come up wi' nowt though, you know what they're like. 'Ate each other do most crews but they won't squeal." replied the Sergeant as he moved to the door and barked for a Militia man to attend him.
Firdle speaks and Franick looks down. "Interesting." he says, kneeling and touching some of the husks with the point of his dagger. "Jines!"
"Sir!" said Private Jines, stepping forward.
"Find something to bag those husks in, make a sketch of their position. It looks like there are leaves here but the shells have mostly been cleared away, probably to cover their tracks. Someone was here for a short while. What time did you see this fellow at the barrow?" asks Franick.
Judging by the position of the sun and the half hour or so Firdle had been in the town square before approaching Rathmere it could only have been an hour ago or so. He told Franick.
"Sergeant!" barked Franick.
"Aye sir, I 'eard." said Klemitz from the door. "We'll drag th' seller in, have a word." He glanced at Firdle with a grudging respect in his eye then turned to relay information to the Corporal who'd just come up the stairs.
"So..." said Franick.
"The Assassin knew Rathmere would be recruiting in the square. They might have to wait some time so stopped on the way for a snack and hired this room. We'll chat with Mavis about that but I expect it'll be a false name and enough coin to ask no questions. The perpetrator waited here for a commotion to start to distract the crowd and fired at Rathmere whilst all eyes were on your fight. Almost as if... how did the fight start?" asked Franick.

Will (finally) gets his brain in gear. Klarrrrchur gets lucky.
OOC Will Darness pass L1SR IQ, pass L1SR LK 24AP earned Will is on 99AP
Firdle falls short, surprisingly. Both checks failed. 13AP earned Firdle is on 179AP
Klarrrrchur fails IQ but gets lucky with L2SR. 21AP earned Klarrrrchur is on 132AP
Will ponders. Something about the timing was too unfortunate. He and others had been milling around the town square. Rathmere started to speak... he laid out his spiel... they started to listen to that musical, almost hypnotic voice... Morgan Ironwolf was antagonised enough to start a fight... Rathmere saw an opportunity to test the new 'blades'...
OOC IQ L1SR passed:
1) The crew that attacked Morgan Ironwolf were ... signalled? Signalled to start the commotion and create the distraction?
LK L1SR passed:
1) Will remembers turning to see what the commotion was and blinks. A hand was just lowering down...
Was Morgan Ironwolf involved in this more than met the eye? And... she's left the room now... What part had she played in this deviltry?
Klarrrrchur looks out of the window to the town square below. People moving about, clearing the place up. Militia moving drunks on, righting carts and tables, restoring law and order to the place. He turns.
OOC Klarrrrchur sees the room. Firdle with a shrug and a blank look. Will thinking hard and realisation starting to dawn... Franick with hands behind his back, dagger in hand and blade tapping steadily against his armoured backside. Sergeant Klemitz at the door leaning in the frame head ducked to accommodate his 6'6" height. Private Jines carefully measuring with steps and scribbling on a wax tablet. Petrik to the left of the door leaning against the wall with his partially broken pitchfork...
L2SR Luck check passed:
1) Petrik is glancing every now and again at Franick, the party, the window and to Klemitz. When Klarrrrchur turned he seemed to 'slip' back into a vacant stare and docile grin. 2) There is a bulge in his shirt on his hip, normally not visible but because of the heat and the sweat clinging to his body the soiled once white shirt is more ... close. It looks like the hilt of a dagger.

Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:
It would not be the first time pirates had tried to foil a Dwarven crew of Khavad, yet Klarrrrchur did not have the wit to see it coming till it was too late, but he also did not have the sense to have patience either. He stomped over to Petrik. The idea that he had been duped again and betrayed by one he had treated as an ally caused the rage grow in him; a rage that he could not be control. He could not consider in the coming frustrated if a more common sense approach would be preferable; to use sleuth and cautious instead of brute force. He grabbed the spy, for if that what he was, by the tunic ripping it up and slamming his sledge-hammer fist into the man's stomach. “What ye have for dinner today?” he asked in grim jest. Actions: The Dwarf has no finesse, he is in a blur, tunnel vision and it just he and the other... Will put a point into IQ soon.
Nialldubh rolls 6d6+47 = 3 +1 +2 +2 +6 +6 + 47 = 67...

Will Darness "There's more to this than meets the eye," says Will to the room, at least that part of it which isn't currently tenderizing Petrik's flesh. "I think we've been played for fools. Captain, what do you know of this Morgan Ironwolf? Did anyone see where she went?"
ACTIONS Try to see where Morgan went. Assuming Klarrrrchur can handle Petrik on his own, but if things turn nasty Will is prepared to back him up.

'Petrik' did not seem surprised - in the slightest - that the Dwarf was stomping over towards him!Indeed, the look on his face changed - from the vacant stare, lopsided grin of the hapless village peasant lad to a narrow eyed sneer... and with a smooth flowing motion one hand pulled a curved dagger from inside the fold of his shirt! The dagger was odd. The blade was sharp as a razor but copper or brown in colour... and when 'Petrik' raised it to his mouth and licked the blade with a sharp 9 inch long tongue it hissed and sizzled! "Shapechanger!" barked Franick as he whipped his dagger around! Klemitz yanked his own sword out and stood broad in the doorway, exchanging a glance and nod with Franick that suggested he would block the door and Franick the window. As Klarrrrchur crossed the floor, his blood boiling and fists clenched there was a change that came over Petrik... OOC Ignore the woodland surroundings! This may be familiar to some of you...

There was a ... a blur if that is the right word, as the physical form of Petrik changed before everyone's eyes. Even the clothes changed becoming rags and sack cloth. The skin, face and eyes of the creature were reptilian and the long tongue licked about as if relishing the fight to come! The creature hissed and crouched, fighting style. "'Ware the blade!" yelled Klemitz. "The creatures' spit is poison!" OOC Klarrrrchur you can switch to using your club (re-roll attack) if you wish.
EVERYONE
Make a L2SR on IQ to see if you know anything about these creatures.
COMBAT is about to begin. Klemitz is blocking the doorway, Franick is by the window which (conveniently) leaves you three enough space to take this creature on.
