Klarrrrchur just folds his arms and drums his fingers on his solid forearm, saying nothing but grunting, wondering why it went silent, then both his hands now start going slowly for his mace and axe...
“Caution, people!” He growls.

There are no flies on the party (mosquitos and other blood sucking bugs maybe, just no flies) and all are alert when the chirruping, squawking, cheeping, growling and otherwise normal jungle noise dampens down.Only the hiss of the rain and swish of wind through the leaves and trees can be heard but the ponies start to tramp about, nervous. OOC AP...
Firdle gets 17x2 and 10 x1 (52AP with the +20%) and is on 136AP
Klarrrrchur gets 11 x1 and 9 x1 (20AP) and is on 73AP
Will gets 11 x1 and 9 x1 (24AP with the +20%) and is on 46APSweat and rain combine to trickle down the faces of the party. They watch the bushes, trees, foliage... Back down the path (as far as they can see with the twists/turns/bushes in the way) and along the path... OOC LK and IQ passes...
L1 LK - you noticed the sudden noise drop despite the distractions of chit chatting and the horses along with the constant rain and distracting sweat/buzzing insects. Something is out there.
L1 IQ - The jungle is thick and anything crashing through at ground level will either find themselves snarled up and slowed down or be thin enough to pass through or around the bushes
L2 LK - Firdle (who passed L2) happens to catch sight of something up in the trees. Something about man size moving quickly and with great agility... and its not alone! Despite being near silent the Wizard was looking in the right place at the right time and knows that an attack - if it comes - will come from the trees above rather than ground level. He can't be sure but it looked like ...
Firdle sees this. He might want to describe it to the others...  Size wise it's about the size of a man stood up but move naturally on all fours. Because Firdle has a good idea of what it looks like and passed the IQ check he can figure out this sort of thing hunts in a pack... It's visible (amongst the trees) for like, a second before it moves from view. You can't see the sky because of the jungle canopy so light is limited to beams that come through and when the trees sway.

Firdle hisses under is breath "Know your foe" after forming a pattern in the air with his fingers and imagining the pattern of a rune in his head.Unfortunately the target is out of range (OOC which is 20'/level) and visible only for a fleeting moment. He does, however, find out about something in range in the way of his intended target. Deathscratch CentipedeThese two foot long fist thick wide centipedes have fearsome looking mandibles and prey on insects found in the magical jungle near Jepik. After time as a centipede they metamorphose into a horde of small butterflies which spring from the corpse of their former self. They in turn grow (over time) to become two foot long fist thick wide centipedes and are essentially immortal - assuming they aren't killed first. The list of animals and other insects which enjoy eating this Centipede is too long to list. The name comes from those mandibles which inject saliva containing microscopic eggs into prey. Any spite the thing inflicts infects the target unless they pass a Con SR at the level of the number of Spite inflicted. Failure gives no discernible effect - for a week. After that crippling pain and cramps (half STR/DEX/CON and movement of target) for a week before the eggs hatch and the Centipedes eat their way out of the host as butterflies. Treatment is any magic spell that cures poison or the 'DeathCap' mushroom which in itself might be lethal if prepared wrong. If the creature doesn't eat for a while (in its pupae stage) the eggs inside it will swim free of the saliva to eat itself/mother/host. It's a perilous cycle of death/life/death and so on for this creature.  Deathscratch CentipedeMR18Damage - normal plus Special on Spite (CON SR at Spite level) No. Appearing 1 Speed - slow Size - small OOC Firdle is on 9/19 Wiz and earns 4AP putting him on 140AP

ACTIONS
Pulls out his short sword, listening intently for further information. Checks if there is anywhere nearby which might make the party less liable to being surrounded and/or attacked from above.

Has also dismounted, though if a horrid muscular thing, creepy crawley or tongue monster comes comes looking for a meal the pony might be in for a nasty surprise.

Firdles' pony starts to get more frantic and the other two (held at a safer arms length via the reins) start to circle and twirl...There is a piercing, loud, vicious sounding barking noise! There! No... there!  All around the party that snarling, piercing, SHOUTING bark sound is repeated by the powerful looking apes which no doubt is meant to panic a prey into running! OOC And Firdle will need to make a Horsemanship check to stay on the back on his pony which is trying to panic! (DEX L2SR)The other two ponies are buckling and twirling, clearly unnerved by the sounds of the snarling animals in the trees! There is a loud ROAR! and the branches part about thirty feet above the parties' heads as a bestial face (see the 'Spoiler' last post) becomes visible... That bark again... "RO OOAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!" All the ponies are terrified now and more faces jut from the trees - there are five of these creatures and it becomes clear they are four armed with two short legs! Those razor sharp teeth that line the mouth are for eating meat rather than stripping leaves from branches! OOC Much depends on what happens with Firdle then all hell will break loose!
