As mentioned elsewhere, I've been doing a bit of an indie-RPG reading binge and came across this discussion itch.io/jam/wretched-jam/topic/796498/dice-substitute-for-jenga-towers which is about simulating a Jenga tower using 100 d6. Many of the comments refer to the need for an app or just astonishment at the number of dice needed. It seemed normal to me, but then when people ask about playing T&T I tell them: 1. Don't get too attached to your characters. 2. You don't have enough d6--trust me, even if I've never seen your dice collection. And reflecting on this, I think how much ingrained such thoughts are, and how I approach any RPG (per #1, I prefer one shots with pregens). So, what are your "I'm thinking in T&T" moments/attributes/symptoms(!)?

So, what are your "I'm thinking in T&T" moments/attributes/symptoms(!)? "Wait... I need how many text books to create a character?" Seriously, this. About a decade ago the group I game with was setting up a Legend of the Five Rings campaign. Not the CCG, the TTRPG. I'd never played but the setting seemed interesting. It took no less than five rulebooks to create my character, a Badger clan Hida wrestler I modeled after Andre the Giant. Now, don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun with Mikio. This character creation experience, however, convinced me that I was never buying into another gaming system. I'm all for options but I'd rather play than consult tomes and crunch numbers. I sometimes wonder if buying the latest book isn't a hobby in-and-of itself.

[quote I sometimes wonder if buying the latest book isn't a hobby in-and-of itself.[/quote] Oh, it can be, it certainly can be. So many RPGs that I bought with the idea that they would be played... On the other hand, even some of the ones I didn't play were so full to bursting with ideas I would just read them for the inspiration...and eventually, they'd fall into some game that I could get Players for, so in the end it worked out. Ars Magica? Wonderful book full of ideas concerning Troupe-style play, deliberately unbalanced PCs...never played or ran it, but the details made it into other campaigns.Champions? No one wanted to try it. But the Heroes and Villains made into many a Superworld, Marvel Supers and Golden Heroes game.GURPS? Nobody would touch the system with a 10 ft pole (and its not a bad system by any means)but T&T and the GURPS Witchworld Sourcebook made one of my fondest two-year campaigns... And once in awhile, i'll actually buy a game knowing I may never play, read all of the juicy goodness out of it after the first dozen times or so-then re-gift it to some folks I know might play it some day-and often do. But since I live in an RV these days many of my games are in PDF and I rely on my trusty Laser Printer and Binders...
