Udhaav
"Only so much water in the well--" f&*@ the broken metaphor.
Action: 1. Casts a single Hocus Focus [OOC: what's the point of foci with nothing to cast through them? I expect at least one Teacher so Akki can drain his WIZ out with [Multiple question marks--this is an emoji free zone] before falling back on weapons.]
LK check 5+1 (+18LK)=24 Sigh. 1st level pass is better than fumble...

“Fine have it you way Master Wizard. What you think, red or white wine. Depends in how much you want to pickle him to death, and perhaps base him over hot coals. Hoy, stop the battle we planning a menu for the near dead person!”

Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:“Fine have it you way Master Wizard. What you think, red or white wine. Depends in how much you want to pickle him to death, and perhaps base him over hot coals. Hoy, stop the battle we planning a menu for the near dead person!” "I hear you captain: I was just thinking about convenience--if we can't get anything boiled--and worried about disease and taint of the death stone in our stocks. He's already weak, don't want to push him into the water." Mental note: tell story of murder in home village where the criminal was caught and executed especially slowly--not because of the crime, but because of dumping the body into fresh water well...Mental note 2: remind self about dwarvish constitution compared to human folk--understand better how absurd such a suggestion sounded
Mental note 3: dissuade the captain from cooking

Will Darness "Lay each gun individually as the enemy comes to bear, lads." OOC I believe that would be the technique to use. Properly aimed such a broadside would be devastating as the balls would travel the length of the ship, hence why a fleet would attempt to "cross the T". Of course Will knows nothing of this.
WillDarness: IQ check WillDarness rolls 2d6+15 = 4 +2 + 15 = 21 Level 1
Not sure if this is and/ or, so...
WillDarness: Luck check WillDarness rolls 2d6+27 = 4 +6 + 27 = 37 Level 4 OOC The first IQ/LK check was to see if you could get a shot in. The second is for a broader 'how lucky is the group'? For that second check I'll use the highest Luck check score (open ended, higher is better).
Update later on. Going to work Toying with the idea of changing jobs only for a manager to more or less pressure/plead/beg me to go in for a job at the current place training newbies. I think I'd rather poop in my hands and clap. Some of the new starters on the railway are best described as 'social outcasts' and spending more than five minutes with them drains your will to live, so 18 months of one on one training does not appeal...
Anyway, I digress. There'll be some shootin' o cannons an' such later on. Yeaaaargh!

Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:
“We being sailing for twenty-four hours and using the water just fine (I hope), and if the water is contaminated by the Deathstone, so will be the wine. He will just have to take his chances!”
“Hoy, yer captain has just asked if anyone want to jump in the water and save the dying fellow. Trust me there is no sharks in the water. Something must have scared them off and I am thinking it is that damned ship?!”
“Reminds me of a story of a sea captain that was killed in a sea battle and the crew pickled him in a barrel of grog so he noo decompose!”

OOC So much for last night update. Turned into a 'some point this morning' stumbling in from work and straight to bed.
Wills' Cannon checks: IQ (6 roll) L1, LK (10 roll) L4
Everyone (Delvers luck 'pool') Klarrrrchur LK (7 roll) L1 Udhaav LK (6 roll) L1 Akki LK (5 roll) Fail Wills pool LK check apn rolls 2d6+27 = 5 +5 + 27=37 DARO apn rolls 2d6 = 3 +2=5 (roll 15) L5
Thanks to Wills luck (which wasn't terrible for a change)..."Sir!" barked one of the Sailors belowdecks where Will prowled the gun crew and the cannons, mindful that though they were primed and ready to fire, there weren't enough to man and reload them all in good time. It would take minutes per barrage to resolve.Minutes that might cost the Crimson Avenger dear in battle. Shaking his doubts off the Warrior hurried to one of the cannons, where a fellow called Gillins... or Millins or Hillins... one of them anyway. Maybe. The sailor - whatever his name was - pointed. The Crimson Avenger was picking up speed and turning in a tight (but widening as speed picks up) circle around the wreck. The oncoming Pirate 'ship' had changed course and ploughed through the mist towards the wreck and the 'Avenger. It would have to keep changing course to intercept the 'Avenger and would hopefully not plough through the wreck and that unfortunate sailor. What the sailor had pointed out though was the enemy coming into view in the gun portal. It was a long shot, but possibly worth a go? OOC houndle make an IQ, LK, Dex check, see how you get on for the shot. It's not something a warrior would know about and even Klarrrrchur would not have experience handling cannon (unless a Talent suggests otherwise).Klarrrrchur could see the oncoming Pirate ship changing course and had to make a choice. He could keep the ship circling as it was to make it difficult for the Pirate ship to broadside them... BUT... if he trimmed sails slightly the Crimson Avenger might come within close distance of the wreck. A brave/dexterous soul might leap onto the hull, grab the sailor and be hauled back by the crew back onto the ship! There was some risk involved. It would expose the time the Pirate ship had to fire a broadside. Udhaav looked at the nail he'd magicked. It would trim the Kremm expenditure of every spell he cast. Depending on how close that Pirate ship got, he might be able to throw off a Take That You Fiend! which might not affect a regular ship much but this was not 'regular'. He kept eyes on the wrecked ship and to the azure sea around. Despite the mist the near clear water revealed that strange fact that the sharks appeared to have departed - for the moment. Smart sharks? Lulling the unwary into the warm, inviting, ocean? Or something else? Udhaav was a smart guy. OOC IQ check for Udhaav apn rolls 2d6+23 = 3 +6 + 23=32 L3 pass
1) The sharks have been spooked by something 2) the 'spooking' may have been caused by the arrival of large shapes in the water, certainly, or that they'd had their fill. All the noise and hubbub caused by a battle might normally attract the predators but the sound of cannon would certainly be unwelcome for creatures so sensitive to sound. Unless.. unless there was a different reason... 3) Looking at the hull of that oncoming ship when it was slightly exposed, Udhaav sees that there are skeletons - DOZENS of them, clustered about, haphazardly arranged - and not just human. Huge skeletons of big fish or ... more likely... sharks were stuck to the underside of the boat. This leads Udhaav to the conclusion that even touching the other ship might be a very bad thing indeed...Akki stood ready to fight, help with the sails or whatever was required. Top deck was where someone of his height would be more comfortable. Stooping in the decks below would soon get old. Klarrrrchur looked around. The deck was sparse. Everyone was doing something. Moving ropes, preparing weapons, checking sails, scooping up buckets of water to throw on any fires that might break out. Not enough people to crew the boat. Fergal called "Cap'n? Course sir! Keep turning? We're gettin' wider round th' wreck sir..." Just then a ray beam of light broke through the mist. The sun was weaker at this time (about 1700) and not at merciless as it had been during the day. Still bright though - the Vampire would not be happy with that golden orb still in the sky.

Will Darness Will is, quite literally all over the place as he seeks to advise, encourage, aim, plan and look after his barnet all at once.
WillDarness: IQ check WillDarness rolls 2d6+15 = 4 +3 + 15 = 22 Level 1 PASS
WillDarness: DEX check WillDarness: 21 - 3 armour WillDarness rolls 2d6+18 = 6 +3 + 18 = 27 Level 2 PASS
WillDarness: Luck check WillDarness: 26 + 1 feather WillDarness rolls 2d6+27 = 2 +1 + 27 = 30 FUMBLE
OOC OK, how much luck will it cost to reroll that last one?

OOC In terms of keeping things neat and tidy you have 25 Sailors (including Tintagel the scholar and Meggins the QMaster along with Felix the scamp/thief).
With four delvers making it 29 and Lucia rounding out to 30 (night shifts only) you are somewhat shy of what this ship needs to be at full fighting strength but can sail at top speed with no problem.

OOC Your luck...
This fumble is of MEDIUM severity meaning that whilst death will not ensue serious injury most certainly will as the Cannon may backfire or explode!
apn rolls 2d6 = 1 +3 4 apn rolls 2d6 = 4 +3 7 MEDIUM so it will cost 7 points of luck dropping WIll to 19 (20 with the feather) apn rolls 2d6 = 4 +6 10
Remember that your feather can be reactivated...

Udhaav:
"Captain--anything it touches--that thing may be a death stone or something worse in ship form. It might even be alive, or some form of undead. Yes, I know: tell me something useful. I may be able to target a part of it with a spell, sting it. Orders?"
"Someone get me a spyglass!"
"Where's Akki? Depending on how this goes, our rogue will get a crash course in take that you fiend or unerring cannons..."

Will Darness Not for the first time Will experiences a strange sensation of time folding in on itself as something nearly goes catastrophically wrong before swooping away on tenebrous wings leaving him a bit wobbly around the knees.
"What was I - uh - "
Rerolls on new Luck of 19+1 WillDarness rolls 2d6+20 = 1 +6 + 20 = 27 LEVEL 2 PASS
OOC I hadn't forgotten the feather but due to a lack of forward planning it would potentially cost 2 rounds of Vorpal effect at present and I suspect a big fight may be coming. Anyway Luck won't help if Will keeps rolling fumbles. It's part of his character, almost like an extra Talent.

Klarrrrchur Deathaxe:
“Blasting barracudas, this ship is just getting worse!” He states as he raises the telescope to his eye to view what the wizard was telling him.
He then turns and give the telescope to Üdhaav.
“You have my permission to do as much damage to that ship's hull or its rudder. If it cannot steer, then we can strafe it from an angle!”

Akki
Akki watched nervously as the new Captain surveyed the situation and gave orders. "Not the situation I'd hoped to find myself in," he thought to himself. "But I couldn't ask for better comrades." He resolved to try to be brave, as he didn't wish to look cowardly in front of such valiant Kindred. But, truth be told, he was unnerved.
