I've done it again – apologies! It must be a copy & paste error in my original notes. This will not happen again – and I'll apologise personally to Jeeves next time I see him!

DELVE 153.
BARGING NORTH
Saturday 6th May 2023.
Campaign year: Early summer 513.
Online, ca. 8.45 pm to 11.00 pm.
Delvers: GUS (Jeeves) 4th level warrior; CRENELL (Pippy) 5th level healer.
Locations: Castle Ravayne; Delpton; Marmorek.
After having sneaked out of Castle Ravayne the previous evening, the party scattered upon hearing the alarm raised from within the walls.
Whilst the Ravayne search parties scoured the local countryside, GUS and CRENELL found themselves together in a fold in the landscape along with the princess and her son. The unmistakable sounds of a scuffle were coming from the copse of trees nearby as ADELIA and MR MILLER were captured and dragged back to the castle, their fates now resting with the whims of the turnkeys and “correctional officers” of the dungeons.
Deciding that the mission to deliver the princess and youth to the bosom of the royal family trumped all other concerns at the moment, GUS and CRENELL made their way to the river.
Fortuitously the midnight barge travelling North was passing at that moment and after some argument between GUS and CRENELL (neither had any maps or a compass), the decision was made to use the barge to head to the far North and then work their way East towards the Castle of the Dragon Knights.
Before the barge’s eventual destination of Marmorek could be reached, it was first to stop off at Delpton. Knowing that Sir Bredobar’s spies would be searching the area, GUS and CRENELL knew that this would be a moment of high peril. Despite this, CRENELL decided that the need was great enough to leave the barge and source provisions and maps from the local market leaving GUS on the barge.
Whilst CRENELL was ashore, GUS noticed a swarthy looking figure half concealed in the shrubbery on the opposite bank, after being hailed, the man sprinted to his horse and attempted to flee into the Singing Forest. A well placed crossbow shot to his horse from GUS brought him tumbling to the ground and without a thought to the consequence, GUS jumped into the river to give chase.
Meanwhile CRENELL, wandering back to the barge, was set upon by a small group of bandits but a hastily cast spell and some handy crossbow work of his own soon left 3 bandits dead upon the road and one more fleeing to the docks.
GUS, chasing the swarthy man into the forest, found himself within charging range of a knight with a mercenary Giant in tow. After a brief exchange of words, GUS decided that discretion was the better part of valour and fled back to the river arriving just in time to swim across as CRENELL arrived on the scene hot in pursuit of the remaining bandit.
Now engaged in combat, GUS and CRENELL realised they were overmatched so CRENELL used his homemade flute to play a note pitched so high as to briefly incapacitate the giant (very sensitive ears) long enough for GUS to work himself into a whirlwind of blades and keep the other three combatants at bay.
With the enemy stunned, GUS took the opportunity to throw one of the bandits into the canal and CRENELL negotiated with the giant to keep him out of the combat (a promised fee was extracted). With the odds now firmly in the delver’s favour, the knight, who refused to yield, was slain. The giant, wanting payment for staying out of the fight, took the cloak of shielding from CRENELL and warned the delvers of the magical defences with which Sir Bredobar had sent his agents.
The body of the knight, which turned out to belong to Sir Bredobar’s squire, was dumped in the river and after looting his makeshift camp, the delvers continued on the barge up to Marmorek, noting the glow coming from the top of the Tower of Despair as they sailed.
Very exciting capers in delve #153. Will they be able to make it all the way across the wilds of Golnir to the Sokaran border in the east?
