Cool, then I will, probably over on resources unless you think it should be stashed in this thread.

I suggest in this zone or thread, as it is an alternate setting for T&T. that doesn't proscribe you from rule amendments as well. It is neater kept in one place.

Garen Ewing, who is also a wonderful comics artist, made a listing of SF weapons for Trolls in Space. And whilst I have still never played it, the idea behind Tales of the space princess would make an instant fit for T&T in space.

As long as we're all going necro on this thread... In regards to Strength's usefulness in sci fi, didn't Kirk punch and/or kiss every dang thing he met? T&T in space just screams for this kind of hands-on cowboy diplomacy. (To give equal attention to the other big sci fi franchise, certain styles of lightsaber fighting could be strength-based.) Anyway, somebody needs to make this happen. I'm too busy raising kids and daydreaming about dinosaurs.

Necroing a thread is perfectly acceptable. I have run SF with T&T and other modified systems. I did not use PSI powers however. STR usually gets deemphisised with no harm to the game. IQ and DEX start to dominate and give the game its own feel.

Excellent: perfect forum to come out of stasis as I keep slogging through New Khazan projects (http://perytonpublishing.com/newkhazan.htm)
Experiences, thoughts anyone?

Thanks for the link to your SF-based site Mosker. Tell us, would you describe New Khazan as Space Opera style (E.g. gravity is always somehow on, doesn't matter how, there are aliens but they're often compatible with humans...) or some other style?

Not my site or my creation. I'm just writing products for it. The 9KW universe is entirely Tom Loney's (Kopfy on Trollhalla) baby. Space opera is a good start in terms of description, but what attracted me is that there are elements that adventure writers/GMs can run with that would lead in directions highly disparate for even T&T games. The unifying factors: magic, not science rule and that kremm is a scarce resource. (A quote from the rules: "Spell-ships are catapulted between the stars by a series of cryptic and very complex variations of the Blow-Me-To...Ghostly Going and Fly Me spells [that] are encoded into a magical tablet usually at the center of the engine[...]"

Firearms definitely should have strength minimums - plus a higher one for autofire.
Also, rifles fired 1-handed generally should have double or +10 (whichever's worse) STR required.
For example, .22LR rifle is probably STR 3 required. Str 13 for one handed fire. Autofire in 3-round burst, probably about 6. Rock and roll, 9. one handed rock and roll for effect, 19.
Dex likewise goes up for 1-handed use of a longarm, and for autofire. The penalty to adds should probably also apply to to-hit rolls.

Dune certainly valued hand to hand combat. And, both physics and fragile space craft make projectile weapons hazardous to all in space.
BTW, I have a copy of an old issue of Pegasus from 1982, where Ken talks about ray guns, and how they will fit in the "new" TnT based supers game in development. Issue IX, available for download from Drivethru.

New Khazan seems like a great setting (though I don't have it) for a science fiction blend of T&T. I seem to recall seeing something on the internet that Ken wrote on rayguns. I'll see if I can find it. To me, ray guns and the like could even work in normal T&T. Trollworld is just such a crazy, open world as it is.

Found it: superpowertrip.wordpress.com/Just scroll down and you'll see Ken's article on ray guns. And he's even created a listing of weapons with adjoining stats! I think he intended these for use with a superhero setting. But, it wouldn't take much to adapt them to a science fiction setting or a fantasy setting that allows for pulp'ish, science fiction elements. I for one would love to add robots, space ships and other crazy mecha to the mix for fun.

There's definitely a precedent for SciFi weapons on Troll world,in one of the early solos (Weirdworld?) You could acquire an energy sword/Light-saber and I seem to recall a blaster pistol in another solo (possibly Gamesmen of Kasar, don't have the books to hand to check)

And it wouldn't at all surprise me if there is a blaster pistol in Gamesmen of Kasar being science fiction'ish.
