Hi,
Okay, I just got a seventh printing 1983 rulebook of the 5th edition off of ebay.
What are the differences in that rulebook and the 5.5 version published in 2005?
Will it be enough to now buy the 7th Edition, or do I really need 5.5 to get the most out of my T&T experience?
Thanks for your input.

5.5 adds a section on kens house rules, history of troll world, buffalo castle and some other such things that dont really affect anything other than being nice to have. Pick up seventh edition, it is well worth the money.
best regards

I bought a copy of 5.5 even though I already had two copies of 5th edition prior to that. Well, I needed another copy of 5th edition anyway since my older copies were pretty worn out. Nevertheless, I really valued the chronology of trollworld added in 5.5. The rest of the extra stuff in 5.5 I could take or leave, especially since I already owned a copy of Buffalo Castle, and also since much of the extra stuff is superseded by 7th edition rules. If you can eventually acquire a copy of 5.5, I'd recommend it just for the chronology.

The solo adventures actually provide more to the T&T experience. So much of Tunnels and Trolls reaches out from the rules into the flavor of the game. Trollworld is explored more in the solos. Some of the Solos stand independent of Trollworld, but each adventure provides a lot of favor.
7th Edition can stand on its own and in some cases do things very differently than 5th. I bought 5.5 to support my wornout 5th edition book. In 5.5 you can see the early version of WIZ (i.e. Power).

I recommend both-there is quite a bit of difference in some of the ways the two editions resolve things.
You may end up cherry-picking from both editions...I get the feeling a lot of my fellow posters do(and I certainly have).

5.5 also formally introduces Spite damage to the rules.

And spite damage in 5.5 is different than spite damage in 7... slightly...
