Cheers for that Naharaht! I didn't know Elven Lords was solo. Is it any good? Why is it so rare and not part of the T&T solo range I wonder? Y'know, I used to have lots of Imagine magazine, and yes, now that you mention it, there were some T&T bits and pieces in there. But yet again, I let someonw borrow them all and never saw hide nor hair of the set again I really must stop doing that... *sigh* The issue of WD with 'Mad dwarf' in was on ebay recently, but I didn't bother picking it up.

Yes I think you are probably right Khayd! If anyone actually plays it, let me know how it goes. I never get to play-test these things these days! Has anyone played any of the other Holiday Adventures on there?

My copy of Elven Lords is 285/1150. Rick Loomis' "Note from the Publisher" reads in part:
"People have asked us when we would reprint the short solo adventures that appeared in the earlier editions of Sorcerer's Apprentice magazine back in '78 and '79. Unfortunately a reprint like that is likely to sell fewer copies than an entirely new solitaire, and the accountant says that if we do a short print run, we have to charge a high price.
"However, Capital City Distributers asked us to do a special project with a retail value of at least $10 for their trade show, and we decided to do a signed and numbered limited edition which would hopefully make the book worth the high price to collectors who wanted to have something their friends didn't have. So, we asked Michael A. Stackpole to take all the short adventurers he had written earlier, merge them together, and add some new material. And asked Liz Danforth for some color artwork for the cover...."
The title page is signed by Liz and Mike. I haven't played it, or read through it (saving myself for marriage, so to speak). There are 130 paragraphs. The Solo is intended for any character with up to 60 adds, including magic users. There is no magic matrix.
The Solo was printed in April 1990.

Has anyone beside me ever played this one? In Paragraph 61 you meet Sharnalene, a 6'2" female warrior. Unfortunately, her stats are missing from my copy of the book. All it says is that she wears Leather and carries an arbalest (8 dice).
If anyone has a book that has her stats, could you let me know what they are?
I had an email exchange with Rick Loomis (this was before I knew about Trollhalla; Rick actually told me about it), who stated he had no idea what her stats were supposed to be, but suggested I give her a CON of 25 and 30 Adds. I really think he was shooting from the hip.
In any event, since then, I have used ST: 15, LK: 25, DEX: 26, IQ: 12, CON: 25, CHR: 12, and SPD: 12. That seemed to work well the few times I have played the Solo.
Any thoughts or opinions?
Regards,
Skaat

Khaydhaik,
This is what I used for Sharnalene:
ST: 15 LK: 25 DEX: 26 Adds: 30(44 with missiles) IQ: 12 CON: 25 CHR: 12 SPD: 12
Leather armor (-12 hits) Craneqin (8 dice) Grand Shamsheer (5 dice) Sax (2 + 5)
This seems to work well the few times I've used these stats. I guess I could always tweak the melee weapon if she proves too unbalancing, or do as you suggest.
I gave her the big melee weapon when I found the second troll too much to deal with, justifying my decision based on the "if she is still alive" statements in the Solo.
I guess it really boils down to whatever flies your kite.
Thanks for the help.

FBI must have added that after my email exchange with Rick Loomis. I looked there first, which is what prompted me to contact Rick (waaayy out of character for me at the time, "Columbus didn't need directions, and neither do I!" being my (former) motto.)
I will try those stats next time to see how they work out.

Sadly, RPG-Index is kaput.

For anyone who collects RPGs, try to find a copy of "Heroic Worlds: A History and Guide to Role-Playing Games" by Lawrence Schick (Prometheus Books, 1991). I have found it indispensable, despite a few nit-picky mistakes. There are even a couple of "articles" (more like lengthy blurbs) about T&T from the Trollgod himself!

So for a T&T newbie which Solos did you guys find to be the best? Which GM adventures?
I'd like to pick some of these up and would like to start with the best ones.
Thanks, Don

I've always had a soft spot for 'Sorcerer Solitaire', a solo designed for Wizards. It's still available from Flying Buffalo, as part of the 'If The Cat's Away' book.

I definately like a little logic in my adventures. I dont care much for the you are at the cave enterence...now go in and do something. I like there to be a purpose, destination, goal that needs to be met to 'win'. A decent 'story' is a must. Sorta like the old choose your own adventure books. I loved those things back in the day.

In digging through old boxes of dusty forgotten lore, I have come across two items of interest, for which Ironfang, in his unquenchable thirst for Lost Knowledge seeks help from under the TrollBridge.
"Fleur d'Morte" and "Adventurer's Guild #1" appear to be unpublished T&T solo adventures from FBI. I came across an old MMD catalog with "Call Rick re Fleir dMort and Adv Gld" written on the Flying Buffalo page. Further research found them both mentioned in SA16, so that dates these to mid-1983. Roy Cram is noted as the writer for AG1.
Can anyone provide more info?
