I picked up the corgi 5th edition from a local book shop which also sold rpg's and for the price it was a bargain. Then last year when I found out I had lost it an ebay copy set me back a lot more I now have 5th (corgi) , 5.5 & 7th. Also are all the 7th edition with a colour cover or are some black and white im confused on this one.

Also are all the 7th edition with a colour cover or are some black and white im confused on this one. I have two distinct printings. The "early" which I got from Ken St.Andre, has a full-color cover, and the interior pages are also what I call full-color, meaning that the pages are on beige stock, the "stonework" design along the tops of the pages is brown, and the fiery design of the page number is golden yellow. The "later" printing, which I got directly from FD, also has the full-color cover, but the interior pages are on white stock, the "stonework" design is grey, as is the design of the page number. There is no indication on the title page(s) that this is a true second printing. I have not had the opportunity to contact FD to see if this means T&T7 went into a second printing after the first run sold out, or if the tail end of the print run was changed for speed and/or cost cutting reasons. Also causing me to suspect this is a true second printing is that I've heard that the first run was between 300-500, and this sold out faster than expected. Word from KSA indicates that FD wants to sell out of the "print run of 1,000" before they will consider putting out a revised/re-edited version. Does this mean that there are ~1500 tins in print, or was there a 2nd run of a similar quantity after the big convention season?

Ironfang,
I believe that the numbers are 250 and 1000. The 250 'full colour' ones were a special print run, for GenCon I think. The 1000 B & W copies were the retail printing.

About 1988 or so, I was opening stores for my boss in Tennessee...I traveled a lot and packed light, so no RPG's and no group. It was a cold and dark season. Fortunately I had a few Solo RPG's of the "choose-your-own-adventure" type to keep the hunger at bay, and I found used bookstores along the way.One day, I bought the Corgi paperback for $1, thinking it was a Solo book...never been more glad to be wrong,or to part with a dollar. Eventually I got the 5.5 paperback and my first copy of Mercenaries,Spies&Private Eyes and never looked back. Mind you, I play LOTS of RPG's( i'm fickle that way) but T&T is srill my first love for Solos-with the vintage Middle-Earth Solos being a close second. Group play tends to NOT be T&T...my group are all Heretics, alas.

2005 for me, with FDP's 7E tin...and loving every minute of it!!! Skathros speaks for both of us on this topic. Add me to the group. I just ordered 5.5 yesterday, cause the 7th ed tin is leaving me wanting more.

For me it was around 1986, I believe. I purchased the T&T boxed set. It came with the Corgi rulebook, Buffalo Castle, Castle Ward, Player Character Pack, and dice. After reading it and playing only once I was hooked, and my D&D collection suddenly started collecting dust. In a pretty short period of time after purchasing the box set I amassed the following collection:
Corgi books:
The City of Terrors (solo) The Amulet of the Salkti/Arena of Khazan (solo) Gamesmen of Kasar/Mistywood (solo) Sword for Hire/Blue Frog Tavern (solo) Naked Doom/Deathtrap Equalizer (solo) Captif D'yvoire/Beyond the Silvered Pane (solo)
Flying Buffalo/Blade:
Red Circle (solo) Elven Lords (limited, signed, solo) Caravan to Tiern (solo) Sea of Mystery (solo) Beyond the Wall of Tears (solo) Labyrinth (solo) Sewers of Oblivion (solo) The Complete Dungeon of the Bear (GM) The Isle of Darksmoke (GM)
I played the solos, then I used them for one player GM adventures. Arena of Khazan is hands-down the most played adventure in my entire RPG collection, by quite a long-shot! I would say that me or one of my players has probably killed or been killed by almost every creature in the book.
I just got the 30th Ann. Edition Tin last week for my 40th birthday. I have started compiling a wish list of T&T items I plan on getting from Outlaw (as well as the new edition of Starfaring), and I have my eye on FBI's T&T 5.5e as well.
Having not played T&T for many years now, I look forward to running 7e (and Revised 7e, believe it or not) GM adventures, and dusting off the old solos for another whirl. Hopefully this is the rebirth of a new era of T&T!
Perhaps blood will flow freely on the sands of the Arena once again...

1980, UK Orange 5th edition. Picked it up along with Naked Doom and Buffalo Castle. Soon got hooked and picked up Sorcerers Solitaire and Beyond the Silvered Pane. Luckily a number of my mates at school were also into it and we lent each other the solos. Never actually played in or GMed T&T in a group til last year, but played the solos on and off for the whole time.

Somehow I never noticed this thread until zanshin resurrected it. I got T&T in 1992 after seeing a listing for it in a Wargames West catalog. I was a huge (huge, I say!) gamebook fan as a lad and I liked the concept of an RPG that had an extensive library of solitaire modules. I've been playing the game off-and-on ever since.
