In T & T 1st to 5th edition, when a monster's MR got reduced in combat, its dice and adds got reduced.
I believe in the 7th edition, the monster's ADDS got reduced but not its dice.
I believe it was a way to keep monsters "competitive" in case the fight turned against them.

Ah! That rule. I remember reading about it before I got 7th ed. and now when I have it and use it, I have totally forgotten about that. Is it really in the rules? I must have missed it.
It's not in the "revised" 7th ed. is it? Those rules I just ignore as someones try to make T&T be D&D.

Yeah, in 7th edition monster adds drop as MR drops, but they keep their original dice. It gives monsters more staying power. This is somewhat offset by the fact that 7th edition has 4 attributes that provide combat adds, rather than 3. Just use whichever one makes you happy. When I played 5th edition I tended to use split MRs, so the 7th edition system isn't too far off what I always used.

I'll have to re-read my 7th ed rules again, I think. I have used the 5th ed rule all along. I don't know why, but the rules for 7th ed are not as "sticky" as 5th ed, and I have no long history with 5th to blame!!

Honestly? I think it's just because the 5th Edition rules are better edited...they tend to jump out at you and stick a bit better as well.

Zanshin, What do you mean by "monsters keeping their dice" btw? Is there a rule I have missed somewhere? I will give this a very belated reply after prof gremlin helpfully linked this. In 7e and also dT&T the adds decline as a monster takes damage but the dice stay constant. In 5e you fully refigured the mr each time, accelerating the death spiral. Also to clarify a different post above by me, I have never killed a player in the course of gming. A small number of their characters, but no players... Yet
