It's that time again - time for National Novel Writing Month. I'm participating again. So is Khayd'haik, it seems. Is anyone else joining in?
This year I'm not doing T&T fanfic. Sorry; I had originally planned to write something more Discworld-style than last year's overly gruesome and somber story, but now I plan to write something completely unrelated. I'm writing Knifeclaw Company, the graphic novel, because I haven't yet. This whole time, I've been doing worldbuilding and research. Gotta buckle down and write it. So I will.
Hey Khayd, what are you going to write about?

Hi dandelion, Good luck! I posted about nano in General about a week ago and I was linked to the first chapter of what I think was your entry last year. I'm amazed your spell checker didn't break down in tears with all those troll names ;D . This will be my first nano. I'm getting really nervous now, me and my big mouth telling everyone, "Hey, I'm writing a novel in November." So far I've not done much other than decide it's going to be SciFi because that's the genre I understand best and, to be honest, it doesn't always need well rounded characters. Which might be handy as I strongly suspect I'll be writing a crock of sh*t. As for research, I'll google as I go or just make it up. I think I'll have a cup of tea now and try to relax a bit. Still, it's an exercise in quantity over quality. Here's my nano profile www.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?uid=134775

Oh, sorry, I didn't see your thread. It didn't occur to me to check anywhere besides "fiction and art." Oops!
Don't be nervous! It's supposed to end up being a crock of sh*t. There are inevitably people who go around boasting they got their nano novel published, or they wrote 100,000 words in a month, but it's generally a good idea to ignore them. Just write whatever you write, and don't stop to judge your work. Just keep writing.
Last year I went into it after three years of unofficial practice - I spent those three years writing reams and reams of crap. 1500+ pages of it. So even though I didn't 'win' nano or finish the novel, it was still fun. (Okay, except when I collapsed in exhaustion/frustration at the end and made some statements I regret now. That happens.)
This year, I don't even care about word count. I'm fully expecting to fall short and I genuinely don't care. I wonder if that's typical for second-years.

Thanks dandelion,
I've added you too.
And thanks for the advice about not stopping to judge the work -- there are not enough hours in the day to write and re-write. And I think that's the idea isn't it? Just keep going, just keep going.

As posted in the other thread, my NaNoWriMo profile is at www.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?t=1161409086&uid=146122I plan to write a fantasy story about the meaning of reality, with philosophical and religious undertones. In other words, a bunch of crap, but for which I might be able to write 50,000 words in 30 days. The background for the story will be the background for many of the RPG campaigns that I've run since 1975, including my T&T campaigns. Still, I wouldn't consider it T&T fan fiction, since my setting was used for a variety of RPG systems, not just T&T.

Ready? Here we go!
(I could start now. No one would know. Nah, I'll be honorable and start first thing tomorrow morning. Besides, I'm already breaking enough rules! It won't kill me to follow some for a change.)

Bloody hell, I'm nano'd out!
If I have to keep that up for a month I'll be buggered at the end of it. But I wanted to get a head start because I've got to go out for a band rehearsal tomorrow night.

My shift at work didn't start till 11 AM, so I banged out 1400 words over breakfast. Then I came home and wrote some more here and there while doing other things. If I have a secret, that's it: dedicate an hour or two to nonstop writing when you can, but when you have other things to do, leave the document up and type in a sentence or two as you think of it. Anyone who works on a computer and has the opportunity to multitask can do it. Of course I think up all my brilliant ideas at work! Too bad waitressing isn't a techie job. The website's being overwhelmed so I can't see the progress charts. Therefore, I guess I'll have to boast here: 1768 words on the first day! Yes! And the day's not over till I go to bed.

Wow, oli, you're really zoomin'!
Today I called in sick to work. I may or may not be too sick to get my word count way up. We'll see. Meanwhile, Khayd'haik, I will definitely go read Living Under the Rim and give feedback. Not too sick for that! Have you figured out how to upload your word count to the NaNo website? It's not all that important, but it's fun to watch all the little blue bars grow.

Geez, I didn't even get the title of my story right in the above post. The title is "Living Below the Rim", as opposed to "Living Under the Rim". Arrgghh. It was a late night.
I'm still trying to figure out how to enter the word count, mostly because the NaNoWriMo web site is responding very slow.

Living Below the Rim. Got it. Hey, it's a WiP! Titles can fluctuate and change.
I posted an excerpt on the NaNo site itself. I don't think I'll be posting the entire work, because of its nature and purpose (and also because I don't want to clutter up my blog with it, especially since I've already posted another version there), but I'm currently wrapping up a slice that's not for any purpose but word count, so I may post that later.

A little late to the party, but what the heck, ol' Skath will give it a go. It wont be high littirature, but it's all in good fun, right? Being a fan of the old style pulp authors as well as the great world builders of fantasy, i'll experiment with melding the two. HOpefully i can arrive at a nice middle ground...or just turn out crap. It remains to be seen
