Hola, Snowberry, Mahrundl and Quoghmyre (and all other members of 'the Trollbridge') from another Southern Troll, Dhrrru! I got into fantasy RPGaming via Basic D&D in 1984 but as I lived in Campbelltown (in deepest, darkest Western Sydney) and was only 12 at the time, it was pretty hard to get and keep together a gaming circle. I came across the wondrous T&T rules system via the Corgi game books for solo play in 1986, and was hooked on T&T (still am after 20 years). I managed to hook others on the miraculous combination of appropriately realistic yet relatively simple game play, readily adaptable/extensible rules and sense of fun that was (and is) T&T 5th edition. I'm proud to say that I lured more than a few fantasy RP gamers away from D&D/AD&D with T&T 5th edition (a copy of the rules for which was almost impossible to get a hold of in Western Sydney in the mid 1980s - so I infringed a lot of copyrights around this time; apologies to any authors out there!)
I usually live in Canberra with my wife and our two children, and work there as a Commonwealth public servant (just to pay the bills, and buy gaming materials!) My family gave me T&T 7th edition (30th anniversary release) for my 34th birthday (which was only a couple of days ago), and I'm still getting through it/mulling it over (I'm currently holidaying in the UK and don't have my T&T gaming materials with me, so I can't do a straight comparison; nor can I play test the 7th edition using the 5th edition solos). But what I've read and mulled over so far seems to me to represent a genuine advance in the rules system, and superior to the fan-developed '6th edition' (which I've been following on the Internet for the last 10 years, and which seems to appear as the 'Alternative Rules' booklet in the 30th anniversary release); looks like the Trollgod has done it again! I'll have some more comments about T&T 7th edition to post under the '7th edition' thread on the 'General Board' over the next couple of days, but thought I'd introduce myself to you all before doing so. (I'm also a member of Trollhalla, but have not been very active there of late; sorry Khenn Arrth et al.)
I look forward to getting to know many of you as 'the Trollbridge' develops.

Toll is a casual, relaxed, California troll. Of late a boardgame and miniatures geek too.

Greetings
I'm oli, a city troll from old London town. I like to keep to the dark tunnels and abandoned ghost stations of the Tube -- which is the Common Tongue name for the crumbling underground railway system that lies beneath this city.
I managed to get on-line late one night when I met a human who was sleeping off the effects of too much Dwarven ale in a corner of an Underground station. When I disturbed him he became quite frightened, (even though I'm only 12 foot tall), and he spontaneously offered me his laptop computer. I think it was a fair exchange because I gave him two dead rats.
I'm quite friendly with another human and he first encountered T&T back in the late 1970's. Many a night he spent killing Jub Jub birds and Boojums back in those early dungeons. He then left adventuring for many years and went on to sire two sons (now 10 and 13) who became particularly bored one afternoon.
They yearned for adventure -- so they were given some rudimentary training in combat and magic and sent off to seek their fortune in the depths of a small dungeon that appeared to have been constructed in great haste. They enjoyed some success but then discovered a secret door to another level -- one that looks uncannily like Winter Hill that Boozer has described elsewhere on the interweb (Cheers Andy for the Christmas Eve email ;D ).
So the 7th edition box has landed from far off shores just the other day. And it's good to see the game is still going.

HI, I've just joined the trollhalla elite and have dropped into say hello. I've been gaming off and on now since 1985 and have played most of the major games around (still traveller is my favorite). I've playtested and gamed at old TSR back in cambridge UK (before it was killed by , well you know know ) , and also playtested for Eden studios and Quicklink.

Even though he hasn't gotten around to posting his welcome message here yet, I'd like to personally welcome Shipy to our group, which seems to be growing [glow=red,2,300]stronger [/glow]every week (Thanks Mahrundl!)

Boozer, I think that you mis-spelled the third to last word in your post.
Obviously, the 'i' should have been an 'a'...

Heh heh, yes, an 'a' would have been more appropriate

Well, i'm Randy from NC...got my Holmes D&D in late 1979, found Gamma World the next year and proceeded to wallpaper my room with RPG's for the rest of my life. ;D Blame Skathros for my arrival-I followed his Link-fu from the Dragonsfoot site. Sadly, I must confess that i've never played a real game of T&T...the group i'm in refuses to give up thier Crunch, so actual play is relegated to Solo modules. I have a cunning plan however-i've sold them on a Sword and Sorcery adventure in the spirit of Howard and Lieber, and am putting the finishing touches on it as we speak... The cunning part? It's Mercenaries Spies and Private Eyes, with magic system ripped whole and bleeding from Chaosium's Call of Cthulu-at least they'll be playing a T&T variant. Also,I have planted a spy in the player's camp-a dedicated Terry Pratchett fan who is introducing the other players to the joys of Discworld! If I can get the whimsy level high enough, i'll have my T&T Discworld saga yet!! AHAAHHAAHAHAHA...er, ahem, sorry about that.

Oh yes! T&T and Discworld, the perfect match. I'm working on the same thing myself!

Welcome, Order99! I've also been mostly relegated to solos. But late in 2004, I started a T&T campaign (currently on hiatus) for a group who had never played it before. It can be done!

Well, I weaned most of them off D&D 3.5("You want ME to DM THAT? Okay, hand me about $ 140 and give me a month to research,hahaha..") and onto Heavy Gear, a little Unknown Armies and some 1st ed. Palladium Fantasy...there's hope. You'll of course notice the slow progression into less rigid and/or lighter rules systems, yes? Now, if my spy can only introduce the others to the joys Rincewind, Inspector Vimes and Granny Weatherwax, I will be well on my way to a T&T storyline set in Ankh-Morpork! BWAHAHAHA...I really need to stop that.

Figured I'd better sign up. Been a lurker for months now, time to fall in! (Paraphrased from apost on Dragonsfoot) I love T&T! I too didn't come around to it until recent years, though. I'd heard of it back in the day, but wrote it off as an inferior D&D knockoff (withouth even trying it, of course...I was so TSR's pregnant dog). After reading so many favorable things about it on RPG.net, and being in the state of disillusion with 3rd ed. D&D, I picked up a used copy of a 5th edition boxed set around 2002. I read it right away, but didn't have many chances to try it out over the years. Selling players on that level of abstractness can be tough! But the times I did get to play, we did enjoy it, even if only on a "one-shot game" level. So I've never played a campaign, and never a game over level 3 or 4. So yeah, I love T&T. I love the idea of playing a game off nothing more than a plot you came up with in seconds, a roughly drawn map, had, and adding in MR's to monsters on the fly. It's a very cool and unique game, and I'm very sad to see that Fiery Dragon didn't pursue 7th edition support more than just making a bunch of 7E tins (which I think are nifty enough, though I'd prefer a full sized rulebook!), selling of their stock, and (seemingly) calling it quits. Sure it's yet another fantasy RPG, but it is in a class all of its own, with a novel gameplay and style that no one else can touch. I wish I played it when I was younger. I would have loved those solitaire books!
