Replace "pregnant doged" by b!tched. Crazy filters! As someone who had had my assumptions munged by the vulgarity filter I sympathize. But I'm going to have to come up with some use now for the phrase "I've pregnant dogged". That's just too good to pass up.

I'm pretty sure that I saw a post from you there, Fenris. Comments about it being OD&D specific notwithstanding, there are some excellent general posts that are useful no matter what version of D&D you play (or indeed, what system you play - you could do worse than read some of them with an eye to T&T). You did! You did! You did see me there! Unfortunately, as I don't have (and have never had) the brown books, I went my own way shortly thereafter. It is a cool board, however. Since, unlike this board, one is able to view the index without actually signing in, I was perusing the index last night and noticed that there is a full topic heading devoted to Empire of the Petal Throne on that forum board (I'm lookin' at YOU, Uburoi). So, yeah, even if you don't have/never had the original original d&d, it does seem a good place to take notes. Yes, yes, I see... I will have to check it out. You never had OD&D, Fenris? You missed out on something good. More serious than 4th Ed. T&T, and not as classy, but kind of the same 1978 goodness. One of my great dreams, along with running a game of Metamorphosis Alpha is to run a OD&D campaign using only the original books & supplements (and myabe an article or two from contemparaneous Dragon magazine issues).

Trust me, if I found it at my used game shop (and could afford it), I'd definitely add it to the collection... but I totally missed it on it's "first run." A HISTORY OF FENRISMy first experience with roleplaying was TSR's Indiana Jones, which I loved dearly, but I never really knew there were other roleplaying games out there... it was just a game we played, but not a hobby we obsessed on. Years later I met a girl who introduced me (and her other friends) to D&D, but she wasn't much of a DM, so we never got very far. One of her other friends mentioned that she played T&T back "home" (she was away from home at college). Since our attempt at D&D didn't go so well, we tried T&T, and that went a little better, but we still didn't make a "thing" out of it. Some months later I had moved away to a new state, and found a comic shop/hobby store that had roleplaying games. Remembering all of these things, I bought D&D, took it home, and couldn't make any sense of it. I ended up asking if I could return it, and they let me, and I bought T&T instead... and it was true love. It made sense, it was easy, and it was fun. Also, it focused a great deal on solo play, and since I was in a new town, that gave me something to do while I was finding my way around. I have no idea which edition of D&D I bought, but I think it was what Wikipedia calls the "3rd Version." Eventually I would get very much into D&D and AD&D2e, but you never forget your first love.

Fenris, it's not quite the same but: rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?cPath=3938has all 9 of the OD&D books as PDFs for a grand total of about $36. It's not quite like owning the actual books, but it's a *lot* cheaper! (They have other old edition D&D stuff, in case you are interested. The main D&D menu is here: rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=44&filters=0_0_0)

(Nowdays I do the beating! ;D ) Yeah, that's very cool. I'm kind of a paper guy, but I'll definitely rummage through this; this might be the impetus needed to get me to finally join the 20th century (and yes, I do know it's currently the 21st).
