Listening at the door, you hear a brief shuffling movement - it sounds like scales on stone. It sounds a little strange, distant. You realize that the source of the sound is below the level of the floor you stand on, but definately on the other side of the door.

@antonio: the Leprechaun seems really preoccupied on searching his pockets and such. You gather that he believes someone has pulled a prank on him, or maybe something more sinister
[ooc: Monty's player is the only one I can actually call and bug to post... I have just done so! He's changing his oil right now...]

Thurgood turns around to inform his companions of his discovers......and finds himself alone.
Muttering dire imprecations under his breath he stealthy makes his way back to the portal room.
"Antonio, Ponto, Koblenz....er unexpected Leprechaun! I think I have found something, a door through the western archway."
"I inspected it and heard a low slithering sound of scales on stone beneath the floor level on the other side of the door. I speculate that there is a pit on the other side filled with serpents."
Thurgood shifts his head sideways quizzically. "Or perhaps one BIG serpent!"
"However that is where the dusty tracks lead and forewarned we must proceed"
OOC: Should we wait for everyone to continue?

A good question - one I'm not sure how to answer. I don't want anyone to feel "left out", but there's also a game to be played here...
My thinking on it is that people will act when and how they choose to. Since we (players) haven't set a schedule or somesuch regarding when and how frequently to post (that seems pretty impractical) it seems difficult to wait for everybody (though I have seen other PBP games do exactly this - it basically means that a 'turn' is a day-or-so in real time.
So far, I've just decided to waive hard-and-fast rules on location and such. I know this might make it hard for players to say, open a door, if they don't know that the other players will have their backs or not.
But while the game is in a more exploratory/expository kind of frame (that is - not life and death combat) it may not be so crucial.
You can always certainly wait to see what the other players say...but I don't want to force a rule saying that we all must wait - unless this is something you all wanted to do.

OOC: Since this is the first real group action ( opening the door that is ;D ) I should probably at least wait till tommorow to give everyone a chance to get in on it. Oh, and I forgot to ask which way does the door open, in or out?

Looked like it would be pushed open into the space on the other side. BTW - You saw no lock assembly, just a simple latch.

A bearded human warrior wearing leather armor and wielding a spear suddenly materializes in the magic portal. He staggers for a moment, looking a bit green, then retches in a corner of the room. He mutters something about magic, then stops as he realizes that he is not alone. Collecting himself the warrior turns to the five companions and smiles.
"Greetings friends, my name is Bjorn Wolffe. Haburat found me at the bar and suggested that you may need a hand in here. I've seen my share of danger, am good with a spear and a sword, and quite frankly I could use the money."
OOC: Hello everyone.

"Hullo, Bjorn. I'm Monty Piedmont."
Monty turns to the others and asks, "Who is Haburat? And where has that portal led you from? I must say I am quite confused. Do any of you all know Zoey? or Feezle? or Pecty? or Bejum? Have they put you up to this?"

"Ho Bjorn tall, hist Monty small"
OOC: Sorry, just have to work my fritz Lieber references in somewhere!
A staff carrying Half-orc holding a lit torch in his off hand turns toward you. As he does so you notice his face is severely scared and eldritch symbols have been branded into his cheeks and forehead.
He smiles warmly in greetings.
"Bjorn hail and welcome, we could use another good arm on this mission and I believe I have just come across an obstacle that will put your spear to good use."
After saying this Thurgood kneels before Monty.
"I'm sorry friend Piedmont I know no Zoey, Feezle,Pecty or Bejum. You are in what was the pocket dimension storehouse of the merchant Haburat our employer."
"Something has happened to transform the tranquil environs of his warehouse into a place of dread danger and we have been contracted to seek out and secure a tome of magic that has been lost in its confines."
"Perhaps the changing nature of the portable space that the warehouse occupies interfered with your innate Leprechaun ability to blink from place to place."
"There is a gateway back to the normal world there" saying this Thurgood points to the portal.
"However I see you are armed and if friend Bjorn is any indication Haburat is still looking for help seeking the Stilgyar texts."
"He is offering 300 gold and anything we find in this place besides the Stilgyar texts." "We would be glad of your blade and spells by our side, should you choose to take up the challenge."
Saying this Thurgood lifts his massive brow in query.

Thurgood addresses the company as a whole.
"As I was explaining to the group before you arrived Bjorn, I have discovered a door through the western passageway and from thorough examination I believe there is a pit with either many snakes or one large serpent immediately on the other side."
"The door has a simple latch, and my plan is to open it with my staff while you Bjorn stand ready with your spear." That way we will be safely out of striking range from any serpents on the other side."
"If it is a giant serpent, I propose we engage it from the front and if friend Monty is amenable he can blink to the beasts rear and flank it."
"Surely between the six of us we can overwhelm whatever lurks beyond the door"
OOC: Sorry for the double.

"Should we not explore the other two ways first? By my calculations, there are two" says Ponto.

" A good point Ponto, however the dusty tracks from this room lead directly to the door and whatever left those tracks may well be what stole the Stilgyar texts"
"Besides I like not the idea of having an unknown danger at my back"
"I am of course open to other suggestions"

"We could put something under the door handle, rendering it impossible for anything in there to catch us unawares."

"We'll have to go through that door, men. I'd only rig it shut if we can spend some time deducing what's actually behind it with magic."
