The creature runs down the east passage. Monty, you see it turn to its left (north) some distance away - the darkness makes it difficult to judge precise distance...
Bjorn takes a deep breath and exhales. You pick up two francisca from the fallen creature. They seem sub-par, crude. (2+2 weapons, 60' range). While you are searching the body, you judge the creature to weigh just shy of 100 lbs.
Ponto and Monty take up positions just inside the arch to the north passage. Bjorn hands Monty a lit torch.
Thurgood and Antonio stand at the edge and look east and down. The serpent has freed itself from under the door. It is slowly slithering toward the passage east. It's not gotten far. Periodically its progress is halted by coiling spasms.
[TKD: I'll keep you updated as your STR returns. I've always played that recovery of points is: - 1 per 10 minutes if you're "adventuring" (doing the things that adventurers do on adventures anyway...) - d6 per 10 minutes if you are resting or meditating or something - doing nothing but restoring power. - fully restored after 8 hours sleep.
I should have mentioned this before. Is this OK? Going by-the-book, you regain 1 point per full turn. (the italics are in the rules...) and as far as I can tell, a full turn is supposed to be 10 minutes.]

OOC: Was there anything else of note on the axe-thrower? Was he wearing armor or just rags?
Picking up the two small axes, Bjorn turns to his two small comrades. "Monty, keep watch on the northern passage. Ponto, bring your sling and let's go have some target practice."
Bjorn joins Thurgood, Antonio, and Koblenz at the pit edge. He nods to the two warriors and pats Thurgood on the back. "That was an impressive display of power my friend. We'll get the second devil before long. In the meantime lets dispose of these odd serpents and see what treasure they're guarding."
Bjorn watches the wounded snake carefully. When it stops to have a convulsion, he throws one of the axes at its monstrous bulk.
OOC: Saving roll?

Thurgood will remove a second torch from his pack and lights it with the first. He will then cast the first torch out towards the middle of the pit, to provide some light to see by.
OOC: Those recovery rates sound fine, I like the meditation/recovery option. I may have to add that to my house rules. ;D

"Why don't we throw the bodies in the pit? The snake might eat them, giving us time to explore."

Holding a lit torch in either hand Thurgood addresses Ponto.
"An excellent suggestion friend Ponto, I was hoping to use the body to pin the snake and make it easier dispatch with Bjorn's axes and your sling"
"After I have cast this torch into the pit it should provide enough light to see by and if there is something small worth investigating Monty can blink down grab it and blink back"
"If there is much to investigate a few of us can use my rope and descend into the pit while the rest of us cover them in case the second snake returns"
"If we all enter the pit the pale humanoid may return with friends, then we like the snake below will be sitting targets for any missiles they have to rain down on us"
Saying this Thurgood casts his first torch into the center of the pit.
OOC: Now to discover the secret of the beaky snakes! ;D

Ponto also counts how many other people are in the room, as he's a bit confused.

OOC: Well as of right now there are, thurgood, Ponto, Bjorn, Monty, Antonio and Koblenz in the pit room.
Thats six and its possible we will be joined by Cobble Ripfoot in the near future.
Its just then Koblenz and Antonio have been a little indisposed for a while.

Bjorn holds his axe throw until Thurgood throws his torch into the pit. He looks at the snake and at the body of their slain foe and shrugs his shoulders.
"Since the snake is no longer next to the edge of the pit and is moving, I think it would be difficult to throw 100 lbs of dead weight on top of it. But for now the beast is getting away. Let's dispose of it while we can."
OOC: How far away is the snake from the edge of the pit and us? What level SR will be needed to hit it?

Thurgood throws a torch into the pit. The serpent is slowly making its way to the tunnel, but it looks like it can only move the lower half of its body, so it's going very slowly. [@ponto & Monty (Monto? Ponty? anyway...) the north hall extends straight about 30', where it opens into an intersection. Again, this is at the extent of the torchlight, but you can see an arch against the far north wall. You have heard a door slam shut from beyond the far archway.] [@bjorn - you found nothing of value on the beastie. Lizard skins stitched together. You're looking at about a 35' throw. Looking at L4 SR on Dex. Will drop to L3 considering state of target. If you throw, go ahead and post damage too - or I'll roll it if you dont.] So far I've got... Antonio - ? Bjorn - throwing an axe(2+2) Koblenz - ? Monty - watching north Ponto - watching north Thurgood - ? Map note - I'm trying to figure out a system for displaying distances and such on the map. Be patient...

Bjorn gauges the distance between himself and the serpent and frowns.
"I'll more likely hit myself than the serpent." he says with disgust. "I think it would be easier to just lower Antonio, Koblenz, and me into the pit to deal with matters more personally. Since Thurgood and I have rope we could send two of us down at once."
Bjorn sticks both axes in his belt, retrieves his spear, and pulls a coil of rope from his pack.
"Who wants to lower me down and who's comin with me?" he asks with a smile.
OOC: I hope it is okay to not throw the axe after finding out the degree of difficulty. If not let me know.

that's totally cool - you've had plenty of time to evalute the distance.

OOC: Is there any way to secure the ropes or do some of us need to hold them while the others repel down and what is that interesting trapdoor like object where the serpent rested?
"I think I could end the foul beast with a spell, but it would leave me weak for the passing of half and hour with rest or an hours walking"
"What say you friends, end it now or conserve strength?"
OOC: I don't like that slamming door, that has the possibility to be bad if there are more of those pale humanoids.

OOC: TKD, I think that's the door we threw in the pit.
Bjorn continues uncoiling his rope. "I think you should conserve your strength for now Thurgood. You may need to blast another of those cowardly pale men before long."

OOC: Hmmm, looking over the 5th ed weapon tables it seems Bjorn lacked the DX to throw the axes in the first place. Bjorn looks over the three other warriors and decides Koblenz appears to be the best at throwing weapons. "Care for these axes Koblenz? They'll be useless in my hands."
