[good spot - thanks for the honesty! - for the record, I'd house rule in this case a -1 on 'to-hit' SR per point under required DEX for 'to-hit' SR - though in this case the sub-par design of these axes might not have as high a DEX requirement...]
Thurgood - nothing pops out at you as being an obvious anchor-point. Are you searching the room? If so, where-ish?

OOC: Thurgood will check the walls and floor for any anchor points. Like rings, torch sconces, overhangs into the pit, projections from the wall and floor and so on. "Bjorn, how much rope do you have. I have thirty feet and if there is no other place to anchor our ropes we could tie them together and use the two throwing axes as a makeshift grapnel and secure it to the stone door frame" OOC: Was anything else revealed by the added torchlight in the pit? Edit: Spelling sorry

"Bjorn, how much rope do you have. I never leave home without it. Or I wouldn't if I had a home." "I think having two people hold the rope while the third rappels down is the best solution. I won't trust these makeshift axes to hold my weight. I'm ready to descend into the pit, but I won't go alone. There's still at least one uninjured serpent down there." Bjorn looks to the north and south passageways anxiously. "Either way we need to investigate the pit quickly or move on to the north to find out where our fleeing adversary went before he returns with reinforcements." OOC: If anyone wants to start firing on the fleeing serpent they should do so.

A few minutes have passed.
Thurgood, you've found nothing. The edge of the pit is just as smooth as the rest of the surfaces here. The hinge-sockets that held the door are too narrow to fit a rope through, and only come less than 2" from the wall, brass and tapered. You doubt you could get a firm hold w/o unwinding a rope end and re-tying it. (maybe about a 10+2d6 minute procedure). One cord of a hemp rope would fit through a hinge-socket.
Nothing else was revealed by the torchlight, save a pile of small animal bones in the northwest corner of the pit.
The serpent may have died. It's certainly stopped.

"Loath as I am to leave the job half finished, it may be impractical to explore the pit at this time"
"If the serpent could leave the pit and attack us it would have already, our immediate concern should be the threat of these humanoids"
"Once we have dealt with that, we can return and deal with the serpents at our leisure"
"What say you companions, shall we pursue the fleeing foe?"
OOC: While he waits for the other to discuss the alternatives Thurgood will sit with his back to the wall and focus on regaining his spent STR.

"I think that is wise Thurgood. Lets head north. But perhaps Monty can blink down to where we dropped the door to see if the serpent had anything of value?"
Bjorn quickly repacks his gear and heads to the northern archway spear in hand.

"If Monty amenable and we stand ready to fend off the serpent it is possible"
"However from the way t looks up here the door is on top of whatever the serpent was coiled around and I don't know if friend Monty is strong enough to shift the door by himself"

[OOC: Dammit, an opportunity to RP all but handed to me and I missed it... ah well]
Koblenz nods. "We may as well go North and see if we can find where that man-thing came from."
He unsheathes his falchion, leans over the pit edge, and spits in the general direction of the dead serpent. "Faugh! I never liked snakes to begin with."

[ the game's still going uburoi - plenty of opprtunities yet to come I hope! ] Let's say you've been back in this room for about 5 minutes. Are you going to stay long enough for Thurgood to recharge?

"Wait, but a few moments more my friends, I would be at my full sorcerous might when we face theses creeping, slinking, savages that attack from behind"
OOC: Does anyone else want a torch? I know Bjorn is carrying one and I have a lit torch, but if anyone else wants one I have plenty.

Koblenz nods. "We may as well go North and see if we can find where that man-thing came from." "Or we could go north and then west, perhaps avoiding it entirely?"

" I fear that letting our pale friend run free will only ensure that he will bring his friends to find us instead of we companions seeking them out"
"That could lead to a disastrous ambush, they know these benighted halls far better than we do"
"I like not the thought of them lurking in wait for us to walk into some dead end or hidden trap. Timing their strike for when we are weakened or unaware"
OOC: Ok so three torch holders, cool. ;D

"Perhaps I should scout out the way he went, while you deal with the pit?"
