Unless, like myself, you are currently out in the Hinterlands and must perforce use Dial-up...

Unless, like myself, you are currently out in the Hinterlands and must perforce use Dial-up... You ain't missin' nothin', Buddy. If it weren't for the end of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2 being on one disc, I would probably toss the Season 2 parts in the garbage. They have the first episode of Defenders of the Earth on the set also. Remember how bad that show was? No? Your brain suppressed the memory to allow you to survive the horror? Well, believe it or not, this is worse.

Defenders of the Earth? Wretched, but i've seen worse wastes of studio money than that:
Manos Hands of Fate The Wild Wild World of Batwoman The Incredible Strange Creatures that Suddenly Stopped Living and Became Mixed-up Zombies Red Zone Cuba Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy Deafula The Smurfs (must..control...hate...) Leonard Part 6 The Nintendo Power Hour The Pumaman Hero High Night of the Lepus (Killer Bunnies! BWAHAHAHAHAAAheeheehheeheh...) Thor and the Amazon Women Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny(Burn ALL Copies if you should find it!!!)
That show of yours would have to be pretty awful-i've been inoculated over the years! ;D

Having learned my lesson from the Buck Rogers TV Series DVD set, I'm watching the inferior 2nd season (of Flash Gordon) first. A word of warning: It is putrid. For what it's worth, season 1 is a helluva lot better. I might even go as far to say I'm enjoying it. At only $15, it might even have been worth the purchase price. I'll say this much: I am not used to a scantily-clad group of Harem girls of every "racial" persuasion (humans, cat-girls, hawk-girls, etc.) being commanded by a cruel tyrant who kills his enemies in battle (not just "knocks them out of the battle"; they are killed). Probably because we watch so much Anime*, we are sometimes desensitized to it, but once you realize that this is an American Saturday morning cartoon that looks more like something you'd see on Adult Swim, well, yeah, it gets a lot better. *EDIT: Speaking of which, with it's serial nature, "previously on..." opening, and storylines which can appeal to many different age groups, I realize what other animated show this makes me think of: Robotech!

That show of yours would have to be pretty awful-i've been inoculated over the years! ;D Ah, a fellow connoisseur of bad films & TV! I haven't seen some of the stuff on that list (though I do own a non-MST3K copy of Wild World of Batwoman, in the actual condition God (or Jerry Warren) intended, i.e. sitting with your mouth open for the duration marveling at the abysmal acting and writing and knowing, just knowing, that none of these idiots EVER EVER had another acting job in their lives) but here's a list of some I HAVE endured, complete with educational links: The Skydivers (MST3K version, which is bad enough) Rat Pfink a Boo-Boo Return of The Living Dead: Necropolis Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows Overlords of The UFO (I MUST find another copy...) Never Too Young To Die (which I thought I hallucinated memories of until I saw that review) Devilman (Anime done horribly, horribly wrong) Yor: The Hunter From the Future Drunken wu Tang ("Wow! The Watermelon Monster!") aaaaand the pinnacle of badfilm: The Apple

I never said I was a Connoisseur of bad film-it's just that I seemed to have plowed through a LOT of them on my quest to find the good ones! Still, i'm not too stringent where tastes are concerned-if a film has enough energy and fun in it, i'll watch it. There's a world of difference between a Jerry Warren and a Ray Dennis Steckler(the latter never disappoints for goofy inspiration). If I have advance warning of a really BAD film though, I won't waste my time.
Having said that, I will admit that I do get a certain thrill when I pick up something I think i'm just going to vege-out on and then suddenly find out i've stumbled upon a precious gem...I mean who expected a film called Blacula to be any good? And the sequel to be the equal of it? Who would take a film called Spider Baby seriously...yet Lon Chaney Jr. has a scene in it that moves me to tears every time I view it. Who would think that Vincent Price would leave all his Ham in the fridge and give an understated and moving performance in The Last Man on Earth? Who expected a low-budget quickie like the 4-D man to have well-rounded characters with depth?
And as far as the Smurfs, Superfriends and that ilk, don't blame me for watching it-my parents always let my kid sister have the remote on Saturdays. I suppose it was good for me in a way...there was only so much ofthat idiocy I could take before I went to my room with a good book! ;D

A-grade movies are mostly enjoyable. B-grade movies are generally not. Z-grade movies are often the best of all. Some examples: Escape from Galaxy 3 (there are no words to describe this adequately) Starcrash (I think that this has David Hasselhoff, Christopher Plummer and Christopher Lee in it) Merlin and the Sword (Edward Woodwood and Malcolm McDowell - the Arthurian mythos at its worst) Hercules in New York (has Arnold Schwarzenegger, with dubbed voice) Remo, Unarmed and Dangerous (starring a Star Trek Captain ...) Darkstar (although this isn't really Z-grade, since the awfulness was at least mostly deliberate) The Return of Captain Invincible (Alan Arkin, Christopher Lee, Graham Kennedy - a new type of superhero movie!) Gunn Powder (James Bond, done with absolutely no clue) For Z-grade in books, look no further than The Eye of Argon, by Jim Theis. Science fiction cons used to have competitions to see who could read the longest passage out loud without laughing. See here for the original, and here for the MST3K commentary.

You definitely want to give The Apple a miss then. Still, I'd recommend "Drunken Wu Tang" anyway - it's not so much BAD as WEIRD. You've seen Spider Baby?!? COOL movie. I'm glad I went through the effort to track it down. (Though I do masochistically "enjoy" badfilm, it is always a pleasant surprise to find one that sounds bad as all heck and yet find out it's fun.)

Oy, we've done it again...drifted Off Topic that is. I could have sworn there was somethig about Books here...

"Return of Captain Invicible". Hmm. I think I've heard OF it, but never seen it. I understand (one of) the first songs consists entirely of a certain word that you can't use on a family-oriented board like this.
Hey, I did realize last night there IS a movie so bad even I couldn't watch the whole thing. I speak, of course, of Batman And Robin. (hangs head in shame for even mentioning The Name)

Hey, I did realize last night there IS a movie so bad even I couldn't watch the whole thing. I speak, of course, of Batman And Robin. (hangs head in shame for even mentioning The Name) I quit watching Batman movies long ago, which is a shame because, in the mid 70's to mid 80's his comics rocked. I've been a die-hard Batman fan since I could look at pictures. So, since I'm kinda out of the loop, is Batman and Robin the one with Ah-nuld as Mr. Freeze? If so, then yeah, I saw a bit of it on TV once, and it was absolutely Abysmal (0).
