Even my most serious T&T games still use the traditional spell names. The only time I change spell names is if I want an obviously different effect. For instance, I had a sorcerer once who knew the spell Wasps! --> A conjuring spell that functioned like TTYF

I TRY to play it funny. If it weren't meant to be funny, we wouldn't have spells called of all things 'take THAT, you fiend!' or 'Fly me!'. On the other hand, players tend to take ogres seriously, even if they stumble over candles and mutter things like 'Me Crunch. You-lunch?' with apologies to Piers Anthony.

If the players are engaged, then there will be all sorts of emotions, I've had tears and anger but overall as the tension breaks it's laughter. Often it's not at a joke or slapstick but at the hilarity of the situation and the Role Playing. T&T is a huge amount of fun and laughter will ensue.

My Trollworld is dark and yet monty-python-esque. It's grim and wisecracking... kind of the same tone as Judge Dredd... Puns, double entendre, sily spell names. The characters take their world seriously, and we laugh at ourselves, and even break into song.
We do change one spell name... "Take that you FOOL!"

I've just started, but my play style is going to be serious mostly. The spell names might be a bit of a sticking point, but; ah, it'll be OK. I always have SOME humor in whatever I run.

Hi Wilowisp, I'm currently playing in one of the play-by-post games here, the GM changed the spell names (only) and it had an immediate effect on play style. Very good!

I put down 'straight with some comedy relief' because I didn't see a space for 'I have odd and obsessed players, one of whom decided to deflower her character on a unicorn's horn'... or should I have put comedy?

A bit of goofiness fits right into the essence of T&T.

Blackeyed pea, the fairy: "I'm tired. I wanna stop flyin' now" Me, the GM: "There is, in fact, a herd of unicorns down below. You might want to land first." Blackeyed pea: "Nah, I just stop flappin'. Who knows? Might be a good time."
