The golem says "We identified the chamber you entered from - they will take the book there. You may take possession of it there. I will follow you as you follow them. There is no deception here, you may examine the book at spear-point if you wish - it is the grimoire of an old mage called Stilgyar, and was the only object of remarkable worth that appeared here."
Thurgood examines the book from a slight distance. The book is 10" tall, 8" wide, covered in old, dark leather. There is a rune burnt onto the middle of the cover, and a braided cord that extends to its underside.
The wounded humanoid pulls rags from a pile and starts to bind its wounds. The golem slowly shuffles over to Koblenz's chakram and carefully kicks it toward him to return it.

Thurgood inclines his head stiffly, trying his best to conceal his wounds.
"There shall be no deception on our part "Stone-Man", we will take the book and leave"
"If you find the hobbit that fled the fight, please be so kind as to shoo him through the portal, I do not feel the need to endanger myself further for his benefit"
"Come my friends our work here is done, let us leave these halls to their master & his servants"
OOC: Lets am-scray before granite head changes his mind! ;D
I'll lead with the humanoids in front, you two bring up the rear and watch our backs, the golem is still the biggest threat if things go south.

"Let's be off then. Our employer can figure out how to deal with his missing storeroom. It is not our concern."
Bjorn sheathes his sword and dagger and walks over to the corpse of the fallen humanoid to retrieve his spear. He yanks it free with a sharp tug, gives the surviving humanoid a toothy smile, and wipes the blade clean on some torn rags.
"We would appreciate it if the hobbit made it out alive. Or at least partially intact. He has in his possession some items that we require."
OOC: At minimum we have the gold in my pack, the statue, and the reward money. Not too bad.
Bjorn follows Thurgood out of the room. As he walks he keeps an eye on the golem and the surviving humanoid to their rear.
OOC: I assume we're leaving by the southern passage and proceeding straight to the exit.

@ponto: the last message on page 4 is for you (thought I'd point it out because of the page transition (reply #59))

@ponto The turn north reveals a 30' passage, which ends in a smooth stone surface. When you turn and proceed down the north hall, you hear some movement behind you, back at the doorway you passed - shuffling feet for a few moments and then silence again. I search for secret doors. Otherwise I guess I have to go back the way I came.

Koblenz shakes his head, retrieves his chakram, and follows the others, muttering something about not liking this.

@ponto: Your hand passes through the illusion of a wall at the end of the north hall. Your tapping on the west wall leads you to conclude that there's open space on the other side, but you find no indications of secret doors - all the surfaces are smooth and featureless.
@others: The Golem accedes to your taking the book now. The humanoids turn and begin to walk south. As you pass through the archway, you see by torchlight another statue in the west hallway, identical to the golem trudging behind you (though not chipped and seared by magic!).

Bjorn quickly studies the new golem to the west.
OOC: Is the new golem at the end of the western hall. How far away is it? Also how fast does the golem behind us appear to move?
"Keep moving friends, " Bjorn whispers to Thurgood and and Koblenz. "But stay ready. Let's not stray too close to the pit in the room ahead."

It's about 20' down the west hallway. It is motionless. The west hallway extends about 40'. The golem behind you walks slowly. The golems look identical. 8-81/2, sculpted to look like humans with large, exaggerated facial features. Their wide eyes do not blink - the golem who spoke to you did not move its jaw.

Ponto steps through the illusory wall and thence back to the portal.

Ponto steps through the illusion wall and walks past the statue, rejoining the party.
The humanoids walk to the first chamber and then congregate in the archway of the north wall. The golem shambles along after you, and stands in the archway you entered from. The circular patch of wooden floor is there, limned with a blue-white glow.
(unless anyone has parting words/shots I will assume you're going through and I'll post tomorrow accordingly)

Thurgood levels a withering stare at the returned hobbit.
"We shall discuss your "Cunning Tactic" when we are returned to the city Ponto, have no "Fear" of that"
"Now my friends let us leave this dark place of serpents and illusion, our employer doubtlessly is impatient for the return of his property"
Still concealing his wounds, Thurgood heads through the portal.

"I think you may have chosen the wrong profession little one," Bjorn says to the hobbit.
Bjorn walks next to the portal and turns to the battered golem.
"Farewell nameless one. May our paths never cross again. Then again, one can never tell."
With that Bjorn steps into the portal.

The transit is stranger than it was the last time. You glimpse long winding passages in the periphery of your vision, but they disappear when you turn towards them. For a moment you stand in a vast featureless grey plain, barely able to differentiate the horizon - you sense a presence or presences that pass, speak messages you cannot retain, Koblenz the Red is momentarily engulfed in a wispy cloud whose colors are hard to define - and then you stand again in Haburat's room in the Shaven Squib.
He sits on the edge of a chair, and leaps to his feet as you appear. "Ah! You have returned! And that," pointing to the tome, "is indeed the Stilgyar! Ah, you've done well!"
After you pass beyond the edge of the portal, Haburat breaks the circle and coils the rope.
