I'm right here!!! ;D Ah, just kidding. By now, all of us here know that Juliet was actually asking not "where," but "why?" And that's the same thing I'm asking here! No, I'm not asking why you are Romeo! I'm asking why you chose the name you did for this board. What's the history of it? Is there any special meaning to you? Of all the names you could have chosen... why this one? Mine is already well known... I'm loo-oo-ooney over Norse Mythology (and over just about everything else, as well!), and took the name from an important figure in Norse myth (which I am certain all of us are more than a little familiar with!). My daughter, in fact, is named Valkyrie! (Yes, real human daughter, real birth name). Fenris Wulf is also the name of my longest running character from Cyberpunk 2020. He started out a PC but after a long and successful run, eventually became an important NPC (or occasional Voice In The Party). Patterned after myself in those days, except he was brave and cool, the real Fenris continues to live in Night City, fighting the good fight, while I sit in front of a PC living a virtual life. Hmm, so maybe me and Fenris are more alike now than ever before! So, what's your story?

No mystery here...
Shortly after I accquired my first computer in 2001 (Celeron 500 running Win98) I picked up a copy of Red Alert-after playing Solo for some time, I attempted to try it online and needed an ID. Knowing of my utterly brilliant skills (ha!) at the game, I decided to use Agent86-only to find out it was taken, as was Agent 99. I had just finished an NPC organization for Basic D&D called the Next Order (an affiliation of Spectres with Juju Zombie and Ghoul servants, "Next" meaning the Afterlife) and so I randomly typed in Order99!
I never won a game-Agent86 would have been SO appropriate...at any rate, i'm lazy enough to use the same handle wherever I can, and it's unique enough that I don't have to worry about it already being used.

I have been "lionrampant" online since 1997, I think. It comes from the fact that my paternal family line is "Thorne," an old northern English family. The crest has three black lions rampant on a silver background with a red stripe horizontally down the middle. Thus, I picked "lionrampant" and people have been confused by it since, because nobody understands heraldry anymore.

I was introduced to punk rock and underground culture late in my adolescent years (actually at 21 y/o). I connected very strongly witht he blue collar values and the need to be different from the rest of the world. Though this was much more of an internal revolution that a green mohawk wearing one, I still consider myself a punk. I played my first game of D&D in 1988 and was hooked. I have an obsession with all types of games. I incorporated two of the things in my life that define me. I created that name at the age of 26.

Luckily for you, you're also a roleplayer, so my guess is that probably a lot of online peeps probably think the same thing I did: I just assumed that you were a big fan of the original Ars Magica! Thanks, Lion and Order! I hope everyone will keep 'em coming; I personally find this fascinating, and I hope everyone else is enjoying this as much as I am! EDIT: And Gamepunk, too! Sorry, our posts hit about the same time. Gamepunk, have you ever played Cyberpunk 2020? It's too dated to enjoy now on it's own terms, but in the days you are speaking of, it was cutting edge and fit that "punk rock/underground culture updated for the future" vibe perfectly. Of course, " they were wrong they were horribly wrong," but in it's day, it gave a vent to the people we were inside.

"Ubu Roi" is an Alfred Jarry reference... I've been using it or "Pere Ubu" off and on for the last few years on-line. I have no idea WHY, though... I was first introduced to the character in the Zippy The Pinhead comics, and it was just one of those things. I post over at RPG.net under "Tog" (my nickname from college), but I started that account years ago and I've been getting away from using that name 'cause I just don't think of myself as that person lately...

There's not quite enough information there to blazon it properly. But I'd guess that it would be something like: Argent, on a fess gules, three lions rampant sable.Gotta love heraldry! I entered an entertainment competition once, with my "Lesser Known Heraldic Positions" display. There were the common rampant (standard body and head facing sideways) and rampant regardant (same, except the head is turned to look 'out' of the device), followed by the rarely seen rampant disregardant* where the head is looking away... * This is an example of heraldic humour, which possibly explains in part why heraldry is so much less common today. ;D

Mahrundl, it's kinda funny... you've replied to this thread, yet I don't see the story behind your handle. Maybe I just missed it when skimming through the thread; I'll take a second look....

Very subtle, Fenris... My board name is the same as the one I use at the Trollgod's Trollhalla. Which is just a 'trollification' of a name I've used over the years - martindale. Don't recall where that came from, it was quite a few years ago.

Zanshin - picked up from the old FGU game Bushido, meaning , essentially , a state of mind where total awareness is combined with flawless action. Watch the scene in Yojimbo where the stranger kills the bandits in the house. Thats 'Zanshin' in action.
I'm a martial arts fan as well as a gaming geek, so the name sums up my aspiration , if not my ability.

Very subtle, Fenris... In my experience, one does not demand a moderator to do anything, regardless of the friendliness of the moderator! Speaking of which, any thoughts on the "Combat Having It's Own Topic" thread? (You want subtle, I'll give ya subtle!)

Man, I usually consider myself fairly competent with roleplaying games, but Bushido...? I pull out my copy whenever I'm feeling the debilitating effects of sanity and want to feel a bit crazier. Anyone who can read and understand that thing certainly has my respect! Now the big question: Can you actually play it?

Yes, read it , played it , enjoyed it.
It was one of the first roleplaying games to use a game mechanic to incentivise roleplaying - you gained honour (ON) from playing in an honourable japanese way, and also karma from dying in an honourable japanese way.
It also introduced the concept of cinematic combat. It was ahead of its time in many ways.
Unfortunately it had very little material produced for it. But it was ideal for a teenager with lots of spare time.

It also introduced the concept of cinematic combat. It was ahead of its time in many ways. I have what we now call a "corebook" and one module (I think it's "Valley of the Mists"), and I must admit it leaves me in the dust. In terms of sheer complexity it rivals Rolemaster, albeit for different reasons. GURPS Japan does much the same thing, but I can actually understand it! I freely admit this is a weakness of the player, not the game. Like I said, the game is impressive as hell, but in terms of sheer complexity... wow. I think you could spend a lifetime trying to become a great Bushido GM.
