Here goes. This is version 1.0 of the 4th edition rules (plus mods of course) and perhaps version 0.9 of the background file. The rules bloated out to 40 pages but that is largely due to the 108 fairly detailed spell descriptions. I would really appreciate any feedback on magic and spells, particularly the higher level campaign specific spells. Wizards are still very powerful but the GM has a great deal of control over just how much power gets handed out - there's only one place to legitimately learn magic in the Dark Isles and you really don't want to upset the Guild Registrar. :-) The world background is almost complete but I'm a stone's throw from finishing it and running the first session (just as soon as I turn those ideas into an adventure)! Many thanks to everyone for their encouraging feedback to date. You have shaped what you see here. ;D Rules: hogscape.googlepages.com/TnTGoesFourth.pdf Background: hogscape.googlepages.com/TheDarkIslesCampaign.pdfCheers... The clock is ticking to the first session...

I really like the magic. The high level spells are interesting because many of them seem related and can be used together for greater effects. I think the Foci sacrifice and other (permanent) attribute costs make using high level magic something that would not be undertaken lightly - but I'm really impressed with the low-level spells too. And getting what is essentially a whole game in 40 pages is awesome!

At this juncture I don't know what else to say besides: "Great work!" and "Keep it comin'!"
Oh, and yeah, that font on the char sheet is really cool. (Dunno about it being 'appropriate' for the whole Dark Isles concept and feel, but that's jus' me.)

Many thanks for the feedback Rag. Ragnorakk is a jungled isle inhabited by dinosaurs and intelligent baboons called The Skiven.

Folks, I’ve finally finished the rules, campaign background and map of the key isles (remember there are over a hundred islands to play with so I’m just going to be adding them in as I go. The rules now stretch to 45 pages and the background to 25. The core rules are here (although some of the spells are very much apart of the setting, everything else is in the background file. It’s probably the most pre-game work I’ve put into a campaign (!). The campaign details now includes: All major island descriptions All key settlements The odd things about the Dark Isles, like The Stillness, Skiven, Gristleback and more. A little about the world outside of the campaign area Major religions in the region Rules for sailing A d66 encounters at sea chart Ship combat rules (including stats for all the vessels and weapon types) A swag of important NPCs including the 20th villain of the game - Blackfire the Mage (I also included myself, Hogscap the Orcish Pig Farmer! I can live with the map (it’s a separate download). But I either need to do the character sheet from scratch (the draft was way too bad), or get some help. Insidentally, this is the first time I’ve ever included a metaplot in any of my games. It’s not too original and a tad Cthonic (I think that’s due to MachFront’s influence). To pick it all up you’d need to read most of the descriptions and the NPC backstories. Hope you enjoy! Some link changes too... Wow. More "final" files? I really wish I knew how to format and had some great art to put in it to make a full-fledged presentation. I mean, that's all it needs. I'm humbled by your creativity and work ethic.

Many thanks Koraq and Machfront.
Mach, I will give it a sprucing when I'm sure that all the bits work. As for the work ethic - that which you really enjoy isn't work! :-)
PS: the 'final, final' file has a section on swimming and drowing in the 'Elaborations' section at the end... I only updated the files this morning. (I can't believe I left that out)!!!!!!!!!

I can live with the map (it’s a separate download). If you're interested, I have a little surprise for you. I took the world I'd built in World Machine for the Ruatan map and and zoomed out a little. The Ruatan map was 512 x 512 pixels. This map is 2425 x 1185 pixels and 1.56 Mb in the *.png format. I set the base background to a medium blue so you can either copy out the island shapes you like or paint out the ones you don't. It's not the most detailed map, it primarily shows elevations denoted by color, but you should be able to have some fun with it. If it comes down to it, you could simply print it out and trace the shapes you want for a hand drawn pirate's treasure map. I can't upload it, it zooms right past the photobucket limits, but if you'd like to pm me an email addy I'd be happy to email it to you.

It’s probably the most pre-game work I’ve put into a campaign (!). By Poseidon's Beard, Hogscape, that's a tremendous amount of material! You have one heck of a source book there. I want to go through your setting more thoroughly but it's going to be a little bit. In the meantime, please accept an exalt for such a wonderful place to play.
