Hey, folks, I was reminded today, when looking at my calendar, that Saturday is Free RPG Day. I called both of my FLGS and found, to my pleasant surprise, that they are both participating. So, I'm taking my son for a little father-son-bonding and we're going to head out and see what it's all about. We probably won't stay to play anything, there's other responsibilities I'm pushing aside to do this, but I'll make time to talk with some folks if there's something that catches our eyes. For those who are interested here's a link to the Free RPG Day 2009 website and the list of publishers/items being included. Sadly, FBI has withdrawn from the program this year: www.freerpgday.com/retailers.htmYou'll need to scroll down to see the list. I'm interested in the Hollow Earth Expedition Adventure and really interested in the Pathfinder Bonus Bestiary. Anyone have any suggestions as to what else to look at?

Yeah, I read that FBI withdrew a couple of weeks back and meant to post about it here and forgot. I wonder why? It's a real shame.
I have to say...there's absolutely nothing on that list that interests me. I might pick up the C&C one just to have a little, simple adventure though, but I won't go outta my way to get it.

I looked at Hollow Earth Expedition at GenCon 2 years ago and I though it was really cool. The setting is right up my alley and the system is super easy. I wish I had bought it then. Have fun...let us know what the bestest and worstest are!

Could I interest you in a few free downloads? www.exilegames.com/downloads.htmlHave fun...let us know what the bestest and worstest are! I shall do my best. This is the first time I've known about it before the event. I'm looking forward to the experience.

Well, maybe this will help: www.trolllord.com/cnc/ccqs.htmlIt includes CASTLE ZAGYG: THE WORKHOUSE of Yggsburgh Town Yep. Got it in print. That's the one from two or three years ago. I also have the Quick Start from last year with the adventure Dwarven Glory II. Since the Troll Lords no longer have the rights to the Zagyg stuff, the new quick start will likely be in the format of the new printings of the C&C PHB and M&T and should (hopefully) have a new adventure. But...I'm much less enamoured of C&C than I used to be. I was really looking forward to the new T&T quick start and adventure. I wanna know why Rick cancelled. Bad timing, too. Rules-lite and old-school gaming is enjoying quite a surge here lately.

I found the free stuff, thanks Prof. I actually worked up my own version that I called 'Even Odds RPG'. A hybrid if T&T and the HEX system. It has not been playtested but some day the local group will get bored of that d20 stuff and then I shall change the world MUWAAHAAHAHA!
ahem... I will give them some alternative choices for our gaming pleasure.

Flying Buffalo has never been the most profitable company, and there's a limit to what Rick can afford. I don't have any details, just a passing comment that Ken made at Trollhalla.

I figured that may very well be it. *sigh* FBI should have jumped into the Lulu POD thing years ago (as well as pdfs). Heck, I'd bet if Rick asked, there'd be plenty of volunteers to scan, OCR and proofread the finished files for free that he could then use to get some other unpaid volunteer to upload to Lulu. Done.

I was bummed to see that T&T is no longer being represented at Free RPG day. I don't know what it cost each company to make the game booklets, but the T&T quick-play rules set from past years was really neat.

Rick once mentioned to me printing budgets in the size of $5000 (and I think it was related to Free RPG Day) so it's not exactly cheap to participate.
