Turns out a lot of my Mothers problems this time around stem from a UTI she got from a catheter on a previous visit to this same hospital. It looks like she's going to need some minor surgery, but not until she has recovered fully from this bout of illness. It may be a few more days until she is discharged, but it looks like it won't leave any more lasting damage hopefully. I got calls from both my brothers today, including one from my eldest brother who has not spoken to me in fifteen years after he disowned me for being a sci-fi & fantasy fan. Apparently I have not been doing a good enough job, this from the same brother who has not let my Mother see her granddaughters for over fifteen years because he blames her for the cancer death of my abusive 4+ pack a day smoking father. Now I'm worried he's going to drive down to the hospital and cause a scene, that really could hurt her. On the good side I'm a universal donor so if she needs a kidney I'm pretty sure I can give her one of mine. However that won't be for while yet. Thank you everyone for the support, I'm trying to get a continuance on my Mothers tax hearing because of her illness, but they are pulling the whole "She's chronically ill, she just has to deal with it". Hopefully I'll be able to take her home by this weekend. Then I think I'll have time to reply to everyone, I'm promising myself a nice quite nervous breakdown when all this is health/taxes/ etc is over. I've been doing this without a vacation since I was eleven, I figure I'm about due!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time TKD. As everyone has already said, you'll be sorely missed if you leave the bridge. I hope everything works out for you and your mother.

Well some good news while I duck in to grab some food.
I managed to get the hearing postponed until next month and hopefully I'll be able to bring Mom home tomorrow or the next day.
Really good news! ;D
Her heart is actually in better shape than her last echo cardiogram about seven months ago.
So much so that she will be able to go off two of her heart medicines.
Thank you all for your support.

Very happy to learn tha things may be improving. I will continue to pray that things improve and that your biologically related male sibling units see a bit of light during this difficult time.

Well Mom is home now, but the drama rolls on.
I had a visit from the "Adult Protective Services", I don't know if it was a nurse that got angry at her in the hospital for not being able to get around good enough ( at one point I think she would have struck her if I had not been there ) or my eldest brother, but I got a lecture on what a horrible human being I am.
Not for lack of food ( I'm a pretty good cook if I do say so myself ) or an unclean bathroom or kitchen, no because the shelves and table are cluttered and there is a "Urine" smell about the house.
Did I mention I was vomiting from something I picked up at the hospital at the time.
Then my middle brother sent me ( still sick mind ) wandering all over town trying to get my Mothers Lap-top repaired. That at least I was happy to do she really enjoys the internet.
I got that taken care of, but man I'm just about done. Now I have to worry not only about her health, but that the state might try to take her away.
I'll try to post more tomorrow.

I have not been here for long, and have not visited often, but my heart goes out to you and your mom (there's nothing like your mom). Your brothers sound as if they are deeply unhappy with themselves and their lives, despite their success. It is unfair of them to mistreat you so much with your situation, and that you all are family, who are supposed to look after each other.
You and your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers, and that you both will be able to deal with whatever happens. Bless you.

I don't post a lot here but I read a ton. Hang in there man!
My best friend has MS and even though he can't walk anymore and has issues with even a keyboard and mouse for any length of time they denied him disability three times. After three years of pleading for help from them they finally let him have it.
The system is broke and almost every time I took him to see a Doctor they tried to treat him like some leech or undeserving moocher. My friend and I are Vets and he served his country with when it needed him and it shamed me to see the (system) in action and how it treated people in need. Several times it I wanted to knock those people on there arse!
IF anyone is in real need (and it really sounds like you are) Please realize you have NOTHING to feel ashamed or humiliated about. Realize that WE THE PEOPLE, pay massive amounts of money so that those of us who need it get it. That means you!! If anyone needs to feel humiliated or ashamed it is those who dare to make others feel that way who are in need.
Don't let it get to you. Walk in there with your head held high and know that you are doing nothing wrong. Look them square in the eye and force them to treat you like a person of worth! Because you ARE!
I pray you and your mother have better days ahead.

Thank you all, well after getting in touch with legal aid the "Adult Protective Services" is not much of a threat.
Still not the most fun I've had.
My Mothers more angry about it than I am.
I'm trying to hang tough and since I have a few minutes I'm going to look around the board.
Thanks for all the support, it means more to me than I can say.

Until disability benefits come through you might want to speak with people in churches and see if they have anything like food pantries or such. In the next town over from me there is a community service center that has all kinds of programs for people in need. Don't quit until disability benefits come through. I'm glad the situation is a little better now but every way you can save money will pay off. Please keep us posted, we're pulling for you.
