(It seems that the last thread got too long or something, because I can't access more than the first page. I could however access the later posts using the Search. Here's our last posts for your convenience. We'll have to try and keep the threads shorter in the future. If one of the admins can fix the thread, I'd be grateful. Perhaps deleting the last post would help?)
burke:
Before retreating with the others, Varklud slashes the other leader with a spell, dropping the large gill-man to the ground (20 hits, 10 EP).
Inspired by the Hegg's bravery, Charles hurls his spear at another gill-man, who drops with a loud croak (15 hits).
The remaining gill-men are in a state of disarray and do not give pursuit.
The veil holds for about 4 minutes, which gives you ample head start. When the effect wears off you can barely spot the gill-men far away to the east. So far they have made no effort to follow you. You are hidden behind a copse of small trees while you catch your breath in the pelting rain.
Hogscape:
Quinlan: "Egad friends are we all intact? I'll never look at a plate of fried cod the same way again! I suggest we make a sortie to the coast and follow it down to the south?"
burke:
The gill-men seem to have gotten their act together and are heading in your direction, it looks like Burt is leading them. Even though you were invisible during your flight, there is a muddy trail of footprints leading straight to where you are hiding.
(Remember to update your equipment lists for lost weapons and used staff's.)

Quinlan: "Well, what do you think? Can we take them out with missiles and what's left of the magic then mop them up with knife and spear? Or do we leave a little Caltrop Surprise for them in the mud and head for the coast?"

"I'm in favor of taking them out," Charles says with grim determination. "We've already killed two and wounded more. If we focus our fire against the leaders, especially Burt, we may be able to break them. Who has a weapon to fire or throw or a spell to cast? I only have my sax left."

Poncho: "I'm afraid my trident is gone but I believe the Hegg carries another. My caltrops were also cast away as we ran, hopefully leaving a good impression on some of those soft webbed feet. I still have my bow and knife but I fear we're in dire need of wizardly wonders to carry the fight. Maybe we could set some kind of trap or ambush?"
Poncho looks around to see if there are any terrain features that we could use for a good defensive position.
OOC: How many gill-men can we see following us? How are the wizards doing on strength - is it possible to recover a few points then hold hands and pool strength for spell casting? Also, is there any EP to allocate from that last scrape?

Quinlan: "The only thing I can throw is a few stinging insults. Believe me, they are locked and loaded..." Poncho: Between the taunts and the sight of your bedraggled chapeau they may all die laughing.

"Quinlan, let me borrow your dagger. I'll see if I can't put it into Burt's heart. As far as an ambush, let's let them get into weapons range and let them have it with bows, daggers, spears, and spells if anyone has the strength. We're sure to take out two or three of them and then we can mop up the rest."

(I just checked the rules and the veil lasts for 3 turns, not rounds. This means that you will be invisible for another 20 minutes or so.
Being half-invisible has some disadvantages however. Exchanging items will take twice as long and staying together can also prove difficult, especially if you have to be quiet. And if one of you were to become unconscious, the body could be almost impossible to locate. Alwyn can however disengage the spell whenever he wants.
The 1st ed. rules are vague concerning ST and CON recovery, saying only that they can be recovered after exiting the dungeon. So I think you will have to catch some sleep to regain your ST and CON.
As for EP's from the combat, not yet, let's see who wins first. But Charles, Poncho and Quinlan should have gotten some EP's for their SR's earlier. As the fight didn't go so well, I'm counting all the rolls as failures (Roll x CON). Charles gets 12, Poncho 36 and Quinlan 21.)
The gill-men's advance is suddenly halted as more than half of them let out croaks of pain and grasp at their feet. Apparently they have encountered Poncho's caltrops. The leader (Burt) bellows orders and six of them continue to advance, but two are left behind. Three of the gill-men regulars are limping. Soon they will be within bow firing distance.
Poncho notices a copse off to the right that could be used as a cover to get behind the gill-men.

Quinlan: "Poncho, as long as they die, I quite prepared for them to do it laughing..."
"Here's my knife Charles, aim true..."
"Well spotted, Ponch, let's head over to the copse of trees then we can slip out of the invisibility and see what we're doing. Plus, while they're limping, they should make easier targets."

Poncho: "Aye, a surprise attack from the trees then - we can give them a taste of their own medicine. Brother Verklud did you hold on to that spare trident as a carrying pole? It could surely serve me better in a melee than this feeble knife."
OOC: I'm liking this Shuga spell very much!

Quinlan: Excellent, a taste of their own fish-oiil will do 'em good. A round of missiles and spells followed by the charge of the Limp Brigade. Hurrah!"

Alwyn advises retreat. "I can cast a light to distract them, but that's all I can do until I rest."

Charles turns to Alwyn. "I don't think they're going to give up the chase. We should hit them now while we have the advantage. i don't feel like getting chased all the way to the wizard's tower."
Charles snickers when he hears the yelps of the gill men.
"All right. That's just six of them coming. We can take them if we aim well and then strike fast."
Charles takes the offered dirk from Quinlan and moves to the shelter of the trees. When the six gill men are in range he will throw the dirk at Burt then draw his sax and charge the survivors.

After the first volley of missiles and magic, Quinlan prepares to weigh in with sword and shield (and hat).

Poncho: "I think Charles is right, these fellows aren't going to give up easily and they seem to recover remarkably better than we."
Poncho waits for Charles' signal and unleashes an arrow at one of the limping gill-men. Then drops bow and follows with a charge (trident or knife depending on the weapon situation).
