Quinlan let's go, but too late (rolled a 5, for a total of 18). The stone figure topples with him, crushing him beneath it. Luckily the statues outstretched arm softens the blow a little (6 damage, 30 EP).
When the dust settles, the party finds Quinlan, bruised but alive, under the shattered torso of the statue. He is still clutching the pearl eyes in his right hand. The head of the statue has broken off and lies face up on the floor. None of you can quite remember if the gill-man always bore the malicious half smile that now adorns its carven lips.
Further examination of the room, while Quinlan recovers his breath, reveals that the other doors are locked. Breaking them down would probably be difficult and time consuming.

<OOC> Nice touch Burke, I really wish we were playing this face to face. Still, great as a play by post game though. I would exalt you but I can't exalt the GM - that would be brown-nosing.
A bruised Quinlan picks himslef up from the ruined statue.
Quinlan: "Ouch... We split the sale of these pearls equally friends... I just had to pluck them out!"
<OOC> What else do we see in the room?

Charles has to stifle a laugh as the statue collapses around Quinlan leaving him sprawled on the floor. These gill men were devious. He rushes over to help the warrior up and retrieves his crushed hat from beneath the rubble.
"Hopefully those pearls will be worth the trouble."
Charles examines the remains of the statue to see if anything else of value fell out when it collapses. "A key would be most useful," he says to himself. "I suppose we have enough wizards to make short work of locked doors though." He also examines the stone the statue was made from to see if it is special or valuable.

Quinlan: "Charles, next time, tell me about the dodgy statuary BEFORE I climb it... That's another find mes..."

(Thanks for the encouragement Hogscape! I'm glad you are also enjoying this game.)
There really is nothing else of interest in the room, the statue was its only prominent feature. The room seems to have been a nexus of some kind, but how the other doors are meant to be opened is a mystery. They feature no keyhole or visible mechanism, only a simple metal handle, that will not budge.
As Quinlan shows the pearls to the rest of the party and passes them in front of Poncho, they begin to glow with a eery, green light. When removed from the vicinity of Poncho, the glowing diminishes and stops.

Charles finds nothing of interest among the rubble. But he notes that the feet of the statue seem to have almost crumbled into sand. The stone is black, with a green tinge and feels slightly damp to the touch. It does not seem valuable, but then again Charles is no geologist.

OOC: Ah, but danhem is. ;D Charles takes a fist sized (if one is present) chunk of the stone because you never know. If nothing else he could throw it at a gill man's head in a pinch.

Poncho: "Glad to see you're somewhat ok Quinlan. But those glowing pearls are creeping me out, makes me feel like someone's watching...."
"Well, this here stone statue was pointing towards the door we came through... do you think if we tried to rotate this pedestal it might open other doors?"

The pedestal may well have hidden some mechanism, but now it appears to be broken. With the statue gone there is no place to grip the round pedestal and try as you all might it will not budge an inch.
When Alwyn grips the pedestal he feels traces of fell magic radiate from it.

Quinlan: "Leg sore, head sore, elbow... not too bad, hat - bit worse for wear..."
<OCC> perhaps if I stand (limp) on the pedestal and slowly turn to face one of the doors holding the pears at roughly the height they would have been (had I not wrecked the statue)... If that doesn't work, I'll try wearing a necklace - or maybe a wizard should give it a spin?

OOC: Reporting back for duty!
Drugan twirls his crowbar with ease.
"Well if magic fails, brute force and ignorance will often carry the day"
Carefully Drugan examines the sealed door, tapping carefully with the crowbar to look for any traps or hidden locks or compartments.

Poncho: "We've yet to try any magic on these doors... maybe wizardly spells could open one? Otherwise we could head back down the passage and through the door to the south."
Poncho tries a door in the hope that they'll open to one wearing a necklace.
"Brother Alwyn, perhaps the Wizard's journal holds some clues or diagrams?"
OOC: Is the door that we just came through similar in design to the other three?

Sadly, none of your clever ideas have any effect on the doors.
The one you came through is identical to the others, except that it is unlocked.

Drugan scratches under his chin with his crowbar and ambles over to the western door.
He places his ear against the door and carefully listens to see if he can detect any sounds coming from the other side.
If nothing is detected he will mutter the "The Key of Mellon" spell with his crowbar at the ready.
