As Quinlan shows the pearls to the rest of the party and passes them in front of Poncho, they begin to glow with a eery, green light. When removed from the vicinity of Poncho, the glowing diminishes and stops. Alwyn asks Poncho to take his necklace off and give it to someone else, then tries holding the pearls near Poncho, and then whoever has the necklace.

No sounds can be heard from beyond the western door and Drugan's spell has no effect on it. He only feels drained and unfulfilled (-2 ST and no EP).
Alwyn's suspicions are correct. The pearls react to the necklaces and only when they are visible to each other.

"There doesn't seem to be much we can do here. Let's head back to the south. Perhaps there will be a way around these doors or at least a clue as to how to open them."

Drugan looks around the room and his face screws up in concentration.
"Hey lads, has anyone tried opening the door while the the pearls are pointed in their direction and they are wearing the necklace?"
"We could try that, if not I remember seeing a bunch of iron spikes back when we came in"
"Hammer enough of those into the edges and apply a little muscle and it could pop right out"
"It's got the better of my magic thats for sure"
OOC: Just how thick were the walls in the first room?

Poncho: "I don't mind giving it a go. But we now know the pearls are attuned to the necklaces and I'm not sure that's a good thing, them being 'eyes' and all... it feels creepy."
"Let's also try the doors one more time with spikes, crowbars and elbow grease. But otherwise, I'm with Charles... I think we're blocked here for the now and should head back to the southern door."

"I'm not holding these - does anyone else want them?" Alwyn asks.
He'll give the necklace and pearls to anyone who'll take them.

(Drugan, these halls are carved into the cliff upon which the tower stands, so the walls are made of solid rock, probably very thick.)
You double back to the stairwell without incident.
The southern door is much like the other, except that you jammed it with a spike. Poncho has to work a little, to loose the stubborn piece of iron, but finally it is freed.
The door creaks open and reveals a damp corridor going both east and west as far as your light sources allow you to see (30 feet). It is 10' wide, 12' high and empty except for the odd growth of lichen and clump of dark wet muck on the floor.
In the distance, to the west, you hear what sounds like a door slam shut.

Quinlan: "West it is and quickly before those haddocks can rally their numbers! Ach, if only I had a slice of lemon and a serve of tartar sauce, that would see them off..."

"I wonder if the doors are connected"
"One opens if another closes"
"Grunt" "Well we better check it out these catfish can't be trusted, we best be sure to check for traps as we go along though"
OOC: Drugan will grab a couple of oil skins as they pass through the first room.

(T-K-D, the oil flasks were not on this level, but on the ground floor of the tower. Poncho and Charles took them all.
For future reference, how are you checking for traps?)
The party moves cautiously westward. The corridor ends after 80' in a rusty metal door. It is closed, but from behind it muffled guttural voices and wet footfalls can be heard.

Verklud (quietly) offers a spell to open this door if needed, and keeps sax in hand.

OOC: Well how about these ideas?
1: Have a couple of warriors with the best shields ( I can lend someone my tower shield ) span the doorway, the mages cast from the rear and the other warriors throw or fire missile weapons.
We carefully unlock the door and push it open quickly with a spear or staff and slam them with everything we've got before they have a chance to mount a defense.
2: Similar to the above, but we pour oil under the door and set it afire ( making sure that it doesn't run back into hall with us " and have a fish fry. We could even tap on the door after we pour the oil to get the gill men to step forward into the pooled oil.
As for how I am searching for traps.
I am proceeding forward at a walking pace while examining the walls, floor and ceiling with my torch held forward paying special attention for raised or unusual flooring, unusual holes or patterns or tripwires at either ankle, chest or head height.

Quinlan: "Aren't we using Charles to check for traps? He's fairly robust."
