Charles briefly considers what Quinlan would look like with a spear through his chest. He stops when he sees that his broad smile is drawing stares from the others.
"Yes, let's form a shield wall then the wizards can magic open the door. I'll borrow that tower shield if you don't mind."

Drugan hands over his tower shield to Charles.
Switches his crowbar to his off hand and draws his cudgel/makeshift staff and forms up in the rear behind the door.

Quinlan: "T'was only a jape friend Charles. Would this hat lie?"
"Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge!"

Poncho shakes himself awake... "ooh, are we in combat again already?! Let's do it"
"Drugan, take this spare oil flask... I already plugged it with a soaked rag. You may need it in a few minutes."
Poncho stands behind the front lines, holding up the lantern for light and supporting the forward team with trident extended through the shield wall.

(I am retracting my previous ruling about using the DEX penalty for carrying or wearing certain weapons. It is too fiddly. However, if you want to fight you can only carry one weapon in each hand and a shield counts as a weapon.)
Varklud conjures The Key of Mellon and the rusty metal door is blown off its hinges and falls clattering into the room. (The door wasn't locked, -2 ST, +4 EP.)
The room beyond the door is expansive and the lantern is not enough to light it fully. Two stunned gill-men are however visible at the edge of the light. One is a officer and the other a regular, both are armed with tridents.
Charles hurls a spear the weaker of the two, almost skewering it (damage: 9). Quinlan acts fast and fells the now staggering gill-man with his dirk (damage: 4).
The officer recovers and charges at you with a gurgling roar (HPT: 33). Another pair of webbed feet can be heard approaching from the darkness behind it.
(The narrow corridor allows three men to stand side by side, effectively shielding the others behind them from the combat. Charles, Quinlan and Melanthios are in the vanguard and should roll their attacks. The rearguard, consisting of Poncho and the magic-users, can only participate with spells.)

Drugan lashes the Gill Man Officer with "The Penetrating Laceration of Koth" at level one using his makeshift staff.
A savage bark of laughter escapes his snarling foam flecked lips.

Charles cheers as his trident and Quinlan's dirk take down the first gill man. He then draws his sax and braces his borrowed tower shield against the coming onslaught.
Charles attack: 1d6 + 5 + 1 4 + 5 + 1 = 10

Alwyn waits to see if his magic is necessary.

Poncho valiantly holds up the rear and tries to make sure there's enough light so everyone can see what they're doing.
"Well done lads! Pot that fellow!"

Charles, Quinlan and Melanthios barely manage to stave off the attack of the fearsome gill-man officer, while Drugan hits it with the Penetrating Laceration of Koth. Blood and fish scales spray the shields of the vanguard as huge gouges open up on the gill-man's arms and torso. (The party's HPT is 44, but 14 points of that is Drugan's spell, -6 ST and +12 EP for Drugan.)The officer staggers backward, but resumes its offensive when another gill-man regular arrives at its side (HPT: 26). (The rearguard, Poncho and the M-U's, should make a L1SR on INT. Alwyn fails his roll (19).
Btw, I've formulated a house rule concerning molotov c0cktails. The stupid censorship program doesn't allow me to spell c-o-c-k.)

Charles' elation over the bloody effects of Drugan's spell is quickly doused by the arrival of yet another gill man.
"Not more of them," he grumbles then gets back to work trying to fillet the gill man leader with his large dagger.
Attack with sax 1d6 + 5 + 1 2 + 5 + 1 = 8
