Hey, I know it's an oldie but I've just reread the GM adventure from the 5e rule book and have to say, it's pretty darn good.
I remember playing this several times with mixed results - it can be deadly but it's a good read and a fine template for dungeon design.
Anyone else have any particularly fond memories of this one?

I've never run it, but I've always thought it was a nice, flavorful little adventure. Blood bats! Shadow Ghosts!
Reading through it was one of the handful of things that helped T&T to click for me (regarding SRs especially).

I've played in it and run it. I think it's a great adventure for starting characters.

I have run it as well. A good tunnel run to teach players and learn how to GM.

Never played but enjoyed reading it through very much. I've heard of a (relatively) new limited edition from Flying Buffalo called: Trollstone Caverns - Lair of the Silver Serpent (for 7th ed).
Anyone know if this is an updated or expanded version of the same module?

Trollstone Caverns is lots of fun. An enjoyable starting adventure. Lair of the Silver Serpent is the same adventure, but fleshed out some more. For example, the Guardian Monster table uses 2D6 instead of 1D6, and some of the monsters are named (generally after Trollhalla members) and have information on their behaviour and belongings. You may be amused to know that Guardian Monster #11 is 'Mahrund the Ogre', 12' tall, filthy, shaggy and smelly. My concern: how did Ken know those things about me?!? ;D

Thanks mahrundl, I really do like these little lair-type adventures that can be completed in a single sitting. I've ordered a copy of the reworked version so I'll be sure to point and laugh when your name comes up.

It's been about 20 years since I've run it. It worked.

Golly. That's still the first 'adventure' I run for new players. It gives them a taste of what the game's all about and a (fairly) easy introduction to SRs and monsters in the T&T style. You must have a really old group, Aramis...

No, I just didn't find it worth using with new players. It's great for new GM's...
But I've been GMing since I was 10. I turn forty in 6 weeks. Been playing T&T now for 20 years.

My new edition of Trollstone for 7.0 just arrived. It's 20 pages of nicely fleshed material that expands on the version in the 5.5 manual but basically the same dungeon. A little disappointed that it came as a looseleaf inkjet printout when it should be bound. But whatever - I feel an art project coming on.
Chuckled to see that Ken has written Mahrund and Quogmyre in as the Big Bads.

I've played it out, with variations, for far longer than that, Aramis. I vary the presentation, because I don't like being bored any more than my new players do, but you see, my 'average' adventure tends to be incredibly more dangerous than the material presented there, to characters. I prefer to introduce them to the concepts relatively gently, then get them hard when they start wandering around my world, having gotten a bit of experience at the hands of someone less harsh than myself. DeTillio's Darksmoke can get a bit rough on the hack'n' slashers. The Dungeon of the Bear copy I have is worn out. Even the Catacombs of the Bear Cult are nothing for raw beginners to cut their teeth on. The Trollstone Caverns adventure is short, complete, and expandable, if I decide to do something odd with it. Good material there.
