We are a very well behaved Forum and Vin and M need do very little house work.
There has been a little discussion over at Trollhalla about the format of the walla and its tendency to lose discussions "off the bottom". Having this Forum format limits this problem here.
But we need to make use of this format,
Before we start a new thread, look back and see if there is already one on the topic. It doesn't take long. I think we now have 3 threads on Fairies, and even more on Supers. We don't want the same problem as the walla over here with the threads.
So please Resurrect the old threads before starting new ones.

Some forums frown on thread necromancy, and I never knew what the policy was here. Also sometimes it's hard to say whether a new question is really a variation of a topic the forum has labored with before.
But I think it's wise to search before starting a new thread, if only to be more informed of history! There's a lot of worthwhile discussion to pore over here!

Hmm... I'm more inclined to read a new, short thread, than to open an old one, even if it has a new comment added. Just because I may want to discuss fairies, the discussion in the prior topics may not be relevant to what I want to talk about now - ergo: new thread. But that's just me.

I think it makes more sense to start a new thread when the question/viewpoint is under the umbrella of things debatable (interpretations or variations of rules).
Then there are those subjects which deal in facts, more or less, and those that have been covered should make use of the older, already existing threads (I'm thinking here particularly of the threads of the differences between 7.x and 5th, the two or three threads of Chaotic 8th ed...a game that isn't even complete yet! -lol-....and straightforward info about solos...stuff like that).

Its just a suggestion guys, there is already lot of good stuff buried here and on the walla, but here we can resurrect and refresh it. I'm just suggesting we play to the forums strengths.
And don't forget in a year or so, your bright new threads will be the old buried ones and it's only by resurrecting and cross linking that your clever posts will be revealed.
like macfront says...

Some forums frown on thread necromancy, and I never knew what the policy was here. There's no specific policy. Thread necromancy of more than a few months will likely get commented on, albeit probably in a humourous manner rather than a critical one, but if you've got something to say that directly pertains to a very old post, then there's no particular reason that you can't cast an Animate Thread spell. That said, you could also just link to the thread in question in your shiny new thread... In more general terms, the points that have been made here are all good ones. Ultimately, I don't much care if you create a new thread or tag on to the end of an old one, as long as people keep posting! ;D

Also, agreement with Quog: you guys don't need much monitoring most of the time. As a lazy moderator, I appreciate this.

I see no problem with thread necromancy, as long as the post bumping the thread back up is meaningful. Now, bumping a thread by simply posting "bump"...that's annoying

Yeah, just posting "bump" is annoying but I necro threads all the time. I figure if I find something on a topic I want to discuss, I can simply restart the discusssion. But at the same time this really only works if I have actual content to contribute. If not, I read and then move on and let the thread sit there.
Just my two coppers.

I concur with the "No Bumping, but posting on the extant topic is fine" mode of thought going on.

I agree with bumping for the sake of bumping being annoying.

I'm going to add to this, Its also a good idea to to put the new threads in the right groups. More and more people are just not bothering to look throughout the list and make their new threads in the right locations. If nobody else wants to tidy up this place, I'll do it.

Same here ... as that's the standard on nearly every forum I've ever been on except the Stack Exchange sites. Especially since longer threads tend to drift off topic.
