Oh infinite font of knowledge, where might I find out more detail about the island labelled ' Kayala' that sits off the west coast of Rrr'Lff? Either official or homebrew - saves me having to do the work Oh and same goes for K'nooki, if anyone knows.

On my map I given it a lighthouse:
Also, see 'Adventurers Compendium.' Solo called 'First Command.'
Spoiler: Do Not Read any further if you not done Quest...
This tells me it an important stop for traders, hunters, miners and a rich location, I think?

I have this note against the name, but I have no idea where I got it from: 'A small island nation of very irritable wizards that everyone avoids. The island is said to be defended by Lightning Cannons.'

I've run a search of my T&T electronic content and all I'm coming up with is the info nialldubh posted earlier for Kayala. So far, nothing for K'nooki. Edit to Add: some interesting tidbits found on Ken's T & T Delvers Tales if you search for 'island' on there. And... ... amongst others Who knows what you could do with a few such bits?

Oh infinite font of knowledge, where might I find out more detail about the island labelled ' Kayala' that sits off the west coast of Rrr'Lff? Either official or homebrew - saves me having to do the work Oh and same goes for K'nooki, if anyone knows. As you may or may not know, I published a book in French called Le livre de la Terre des Trolls (The Book of Trollworld). It is based on material written by Ken and his friends, the bulk of which was never published. It was used by the Fellowship of the Troll for the Deluxe edition, and about one third of the book made it into the Deluxe edition. I am now working to find the many scattered sources of the book in English so as to have also an English version. Who knows, it might interest Rebellion? Anyway, back to your questions. Both locations appeared on the Liz Danforth's map that was published in an article by Ken called Ten Days in the Arena of Khazan (in Different Worlds #7, May 1980). The article was published much later by Trollgodfather Press with minor alterations and is available on DriveThruRPG. Kayala was mentioned in the First Command mini-solo, as was noticed earlier. Here is what Ken wrote about Kayala. The Island of Kayala - The small island of Kayala is located near the western coast of the Dragon’s Throat, not far from the Great Escarpment and from the Great Sump. The humans who live here are strange. The men all wear multi-colored turbans and the women shave off all their hair. It is in Kayala that the Empress’ tribute is sailed by the Royal Navy of Khazan to the port of Khazil. K'nooki, also spelled K'nookie, is a fishing village on the coast, between Knor and Khamad. Initially, the Seven Ayes solo was set in K'nooki, which was later renamed Frarrg: “A hundred miles south of Knor along the coast lies the fishing village of K’nooki, which is really the stronghold of a good-sized smuggling ring and a pirate operation. Just north of the wretched collection of huts that masquerade as a city is a building with a little more class, a 2-story house with a stable out back. It is the Seven Ayes Tavern, established by a retired pirate named Nungobble. In the last few years it has come to be the chief meeting place for all the rogues of the southern coast and forests.” The rumour according to which K’nooki, "the city of Temptresses", is "a human city devoted to tourism and the pleasures of the flesh” is exagerated.

So, slightly off-topic, when you encounter something like this when translating, do let it stand or change it to something equivalent of equally questionable (or at least highly subjective) taste and meaning? And U.K., Aussie trolls is this just an Americanism (and if so, how much has it metasticized[EDITED/REDACTED]quitting while I'm behind)?

I don't always get the pun, though. In that particular case, well, I didn't. If I did, maybe I would have altered the original English name so as to make a similar pun in French, but not necessarily. There was also a requirement to find a French word with an initial K (most city names in the western part of the Dragon continent begin with a k). Maybe, in that case, K'nooki(e) would have translated "Kul" (cul = ass ; film de cul = porn film) ;-) But I prefer not to alter city names too much.

I had always assumed it was a British term which spread worldwide via 1970s sitcoms. But it appears maybe not. It might even be taken from Dutch originally.

Kull of Atlantis will not be happy with that. Howard will be turning in his grave?!

Haha, there was always lots of puns about Kull in France, obviously. I've read the Kull stories, BTW, and they are really good.

The French, ha, cannie trust them! Like, "lying on silk cushion!" Or better translated, "lying on silk pigs?!"
