Hi folks, I've finally completed my basic dungeon for brand new low level characters and inexperienced players. As usual, you can find it here: home.iprimus.com.au/planethill/tunnels_&_trolls.htmI'm always keen to hear what you all think and if you have any suggestions for inclusion or things that should be omitted, please let me know. Lurking in the Dungeon of the Rat, you'll find:Snivler the Ratling Ombur the Rat Ogre Hobnail the Hobgoblin The Bath Frog (worse than Soap on a Rope) Bloodsplat the Gladiator Rat Ortugu the Rat God and many more! Hogscape, I have read the dungeon and give it a hearty thumbs-up! I liked the introduction, which set the scene well. There was a nice little magic item to tempt the PCs to take the job, and the atmosphere was nicely done. I warmed to the innkeeper instantly! I especially liked the magic dagger, which has been well balanced for a first-level party. It won't make them all-powerful but will give them a nice little advantage in early combat situations. The perfect beginner's magic item IMHO. The dungeon followed the same high standard set by the main levels of Skolari Vaults, with nice little characters, fully fleshed-out and coloured, to meet on the adventure. Each room/encounter was interesting and light-hearted, a style of module writing that suits T&T perfectly and which you have done particularly well here. Personally I would have made the GM map a little larger, with maybe longer corridors and a few extra bits here and there, but is serves the game well and is a cool Dungeon Crafter image. A 'professional' map always helps a good module along. The rooms were nicely balanced with GM notes to help a beginning player and hints for new PCs. I especially liked the Rat god's room and the chamber of the false god. The spider was a nice touch too. I think I would also have locked that door All in all it is a grand starter dungeon that includes all the meaty flavours of a good game of T&T, and if I time, I would surely run some players through it. At this rate, your stuff is beginning to rival the material over at the Tavern! Jolly well done Sir! That is my quick review, for what it's worth!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a kind review Boozer! It's always good to hear some advice from the 'Tavern Master' (I won't be equalling the hoard of quality material there in this life time 'though)!
I'll have a play around with the map and see what I can come up with.
Real glad you liked it.
Cheers!

I am both a brand-new low-level character and an inexperienced player, and "City of Terrors" made me tear my fur out in clumps, so I think I'll have to give "Dungeon of the Rat" a try. It's not often I'm the target audience. I'll do it next week when I have ample free time (comic book project notwithstanding) and let you know how it goes. Can't say I'll be able to give it much of a critical eye... at this early point in my gaming endeavors, I'm just hoping to have fun.

Thanks for the interest Dandelion. I should have mentioned that the dungeon is not a solo, it's for GM moderation and a bunch of brand-new low-level types just like you!

Oh geez, I need a bunch of me? There's a party waiting to happen.
Sorry for the misconception. I guess I jumped to conclusions because there's been so much talk of solos here lately. Hmm, maybe I should refrain from looking at it until I find more people who might be interested. My brand-new local gaming group, who I just met last week, seems a little too... well, I don't want to be too harsh on them. But they're having a little trouble transcending the rut they carved for themselves 20 years ago. So they're not inexperienced so much as stubborn adherents to the adolescent form of D&D. Maybe someday.

I'm sure you'll sort them out Dandelion. If all else fails, a blow to the head usually gives one pause for thought. No matter how deep the rutt.

hogscape~
i emailed you directly a while ago, but got no answer, so i'll try this. do you have an issue with me using 'dungeon of the rat' and 'millet's crossing' in an online game i will be running at my yahoo group? i will make minor changes, and so forth. i don't want to tempt my players into reading it, so i won't say what it is at the start, but i'll give you full credit at the end. let me know what you think. thanks.

Apologies Branderwydd, I don't appear to have received your original e-mail but please go ahead - use DotR and make any changes you feel necessary. I do hope your group enjoys the adventure. Perhaps you might like to post a few comments after the game?
Cheers

hogscape~
thanks for the reply, and your kind permission. i will definately make posts here regarding the adventure. it will be a slow online game, with about one turn per week average, so my comments will be drawn out for the long haul but i will make them. thanks again.

oh. one other thing i wanted to ask, hogscape. some months back you indicated that millet's crossing (as a detailed setting) would be appearing in an issue of the hobbit hole. is that still the case, and do you know which issue? thanks.

we've been playing in our slow (one turn per week) online game now for a few weeks. three characters have just entered into the cellar to look around this week. they agreed to help mel, pretty much straight out of your opening. complained a bit about there only being one dagger for a reward, although another person caught on to mel's comment that it was a gift from the overlord (modified for my campaign), and asked mel for a reference to make an appointment with the overlord in lieu of other treasure. my take on mel is a that he is a loveable crackpot, so he readily agreed, but his letter of reference will be meaningless later on if the person tries to present it.
this is all happening at our yahoo group (lejentia). anyone interested in more details about how this will all play out, check it out.
