Anyone else notice the distinct lack thereof in solos? Or am I just playing the wrong ones?
It'd be a lot easier to get through Blue Frog Tavern with a couple doses of healing....

I don't think the lack of healing potions was accidental-some of those things are meant to be killers!
I suppose you could roll 1D3 for healing potions as Starting Gear, assuming you could justify it (to yourself as it's a Solo). This would be the easiest fix.

Arena of Khazan gives you the option of buying a poor baby (of up to 10 points) that triggers on injury.
In 7e there are prices for various potions - its all rather expensive though.
Spite damage can really make some of the marathons tough. The mage with a death wish in Deathtrap Equalizer was easy meat before spite was introduced...

Although some of the solos indicate they are for L1 characters, most of them say "Any Level" or give a range of levels... unless you are artifically creating a higher level character, it is assumed that you already have some gear and items. If you are artifically creating a higher level character, then giving him some magical weapons and potions is completely justified, especially if you are playing in a "mid-to-high" magic world... otherwise, he'd be lagging behind other characters of his level, and probably wouldn't last very long!

I'd have no problem justifying it - I'm just trying to get a couple characters in my stable (as it were) who have a lil' experience and cash. The SR-or-instant-death situations are bad enough.

Because i want to see my solo creations prosper i give my characters 1 fate point for each level they get and each solo they complete . These can be traded for an automatic success at a save or die SR that you would have failed. Its a 'cheat' that i can live with so my guys can see more of the world than Sword for Hire/Buffalo Castle etc ;D

(Had one in BFT that had enough AP to get to 2nd - that is, before he plummeted to his death ) Maybe "that company" has some stuff that's a little friendlier to new delvers than the "classics". (AHAH! That's it - it's all a plot by "that guy" to get all my money! )

Can you think of a BETTER way for "that guy" to get your money? And yeah, i've dropped a bit there myself-I took a vow to purchase two or less products a month, it's the only way I could live with myself...
