With the old GM screen there was apparently a "survival pack". Anyone know what was in it?

With the old GM screen there was apparently a "survival pack". Anyone know what was in it? Ooh, that thing's horrid. I'll buy just about anything T&T based from Flying Buffalo, but I was lucky enough to find that thing new at my local new & used rpg shoppe. It's absolutely terrible... imagine photocopying stuff on a work photocopy machine, not even caring if you have it laid out properly (and a lot of it isn't), not even cheap... just without care, and selling it for money.I love Flying Buffalo, and Rick is a good guy... but that product should not be sold. It reduces the apparent value of all things T&T to everyone who is not familiar with the game (they might think that the Screen is the standard quality). Hmm, hey maybe we can talk "that guy" into making something? You cannot petition the Lord with Prayer, but maybe we can beg "that guy" for a screen or something?

I will have to disagree with Fenris on the Survival Pack. Although it was only the few tables T&T has, reformatted onto two cardstock pages (so "4" sides all told), it was not as he describes. "Absolutely terrible" - nope. "Not.. laid out properly" - hogwash.
Obviously, he has what was included as a part of the FBI "Bonus Pack" which was (unfortunately) a photocopy of a photocopy - and looked it. Hey - at least it was kept available.
Yeah - Flying Buffalo or "that company" should do a simple GM screen. Still not all that many tables needed to play T&T !!

I try to avoid direct "reviews" for that reason... everyone has an opinion, and no one opinion is correct. Thankfully, you have not only offered another view, but you have also explained what item I saw that I was so disappointed by. (While no one opinion of a certain product is correct, I seem to have confused products; that would make my "review" incorrect in that I was reviewing the wrong product. I stand by my review of the bonus pack, however.) So the "bonus back" is not the same as the survival pack. Are both still available currently, or is only one or the other available? I know only the Bonus Pack is available at my local rpg shoppe, and there's no way I'd actually pay money for it, but the "survival pack" does sound interesting. Note to koraq: While I'm not going to edit or delete my post, since so much of ironfang's is a direct reply, I wouldn't give much credence to my post now. Ironfang seems to have greater knowledge of the product in question. If he says it's worth the purchase, then go for it. I know I will!

The thought of a GM screen for T&T is laughable.

The thought of a GM screen for T&T is laughable. Eh, sorta. Hack-n-Slash, by Digital Alchemy (a fantasy game that uses the FUDGE engine), has a GM screen that is about as useful as mammary glands on a boar hog, but it's still useful in that it's fairly nice to look at, with nice full color artwork on one side, and some general information on the other that no GM would likely need during play, but hey, what the heck, right? A T&T GM screen probably could have a digest list of spells for at least the first five-seven levels (names and ST/WIZ cost), a brief list of commonly used weapons and dice+adds, the same for armor, the treasure generator, and perhaps the Order of a Combat Turn on one side, and some other stuff, too; full color attractive artwork (Danforth?) on the other. The main purpose, of course, would be to hide the GM's notes in the way that gamers have become accustomed. Certainly none of us would need that information to be instantly accessible (or, if we did, we could find it quickly enough!), but the screen would definitely have a strong "coolness factor." I meant, of course, "coolness factor" as defined by gamer-geeks; not "coolness factor" in the traditional sense....

The T&T 2007 House Rules ("that company" of course!) has a great Survival Kit on Pages 99-102. It has:
(player summary, pages 99-100) PC creation including Kindreds and Types Missle Weapon Chart and Weapon Ranges Summary of SRs and Character Advancement
(GM Summary Pages 101-102) SRs and Missle Chart again Combat Sequencing and Summary MR Summary AP Award guidelines Spellbook Lvls 1-20, with ST costs and IQ/DX requirements.
If one more page had been added (weapons, armor and Equipment) you'd have the whole game in condensed, playable format...pretty neat!

Which is essentially what the Survival Kit for 5th was, on 2 A4 / Letter sized pages. I suspect that "that company" mostly just changed the things that were different in 7th, and kept the layout, but I haven't seen the 2007 House Rules, so I can't be sure.
The 5th edition one came in a folder too, with some T & T-ish artwork on it (or so I hear).

I made up my own screens and references using the modular, blank GM screens. Yay for inventive T&T GMs.
Disclaimer- I am still drunk.

Ironfang, nice to see you here again!
By the way, Fenris, Ironfang is *very* knowledgable about 5th edition (and no slouch on 7th either, since he was one of the contributors). While I doubt he'd claim to know *everything* about it, I think that you'd be hard pressed to find many more knowledgable folk on the subject.

The thought of a GM screen for T&T is laughable. QFT. I suppose you need something to keep stuff hidden from the players but some folders from the office would suffice.

Actually, T & T is probably *more* in need of a GM screen that many games. A nice, big, solid one. How else do you stop all of those combat dice from scattering to the four winds?

You take your table....Yes, YOUR table. Not MY table, or YOUR MOTHER'S table, or YOUR wife's table (and no fair taking your kids' or nephew/niece's table, either-I tried that, too) and four rulers. add 16 nails, about 10 penny, and one hammer. Place the rulers on their side , and, alternating sides, nail each ruler upright to the table. When done, you should have what looks like a little removeable wooden box held in place by a picket fence that was laid by a drunk on a five-day binge. But it will keep your dice in one place on the table, and give you room to roll them safely. Before putting your tools away, turn the table over, and make sure the nails are flattened, so that neither you nor your players get tetanus. Remember, measure the area TWICE and mark it out before you start pounding (and make sure your wife/mom/family is out of the house).
