An even bigger surprise!? Hmm. I have a thought of what I am hoping it could be, in general. But I won't say in case I'm not as psychic as I thought. I'm low on ST from a bad night of sleep. :-P

No, mach, I'm afraid it's not 5th edition in hardback... (Please let me be wrong, please let me be wrong, please let me be wrong...)

How about 5.5 in hardback? Now, there's something I'd shell out cash for............. (Ya gotta have skill rules........)

Wispy, aren't the skill rules in 5.5 a tad lame; and only about 5% of what you need? The article is a page and a half and refers readers to Mike's MSPE game. Also the rules for advancing in skill levels make no sense, why would you labouriously record each skill use to skratch you way to a L2 skill when you can jump up a level and snag a few IQ points? If they do make sense, they're certainly no fun...
There's definitely room for skills in T&T but I don't think 5.5 has the answer.
If I could buy 5.0 and it was the same price as 5.5, I wouldn't fall over myself to get 5.5. I think it was something Rick through together one drunken weekend. Certainly looks that way.
T&T hardback - yes, it's the stuff damp dreams are made of...

I recall how disappointed I was with the skill article from Sorcerer's Apprentice reprinted in the back of 5.5. It was one of the big reasons I bought it.
Personally, I don't think there's a better and more T&T-ish way to do it than having a certain number of points (however given, whether by Character Type, Level, whatever) and putting those points into a skill (no list...just whatever the player's want) and using that 'point' as a bonus to any applicable SR. Done. Easy. Quick. And allows for some nice 'personalization' to the players' characters.
But, I have to agree with Hogscape... all things being equal, I'd much rather have a nice copy of 5th over 5.5. (Thankfully, I have somewhere on the order of 20 or so... I've seriously lost count now... Help me, I'm sick.)

Gah Machfront , that means you have 4 times the amount of copies I have! 1 Copy of the Corgi 5th edition. 2 Early copies of 5th the tan book version that omitted the "Curse" spell. 2 Copies of the later glossy black 5th edition. Of course one of those early tan copies I purchased so I could get the great glossy black T&T box set with the 1/2 die weapon pencil! ;D Of course if I happened to run across another copy of the Corgi 5th edition cheap.......

16 copies of the FBI 5th (this includes five 'tans borders', nine 'full covers' [of which five are 7th printing, cuz it's the hottest!!! and the others are the lousy, floppy, plastic-y 1991 print] and two 5.5s, one of which is signed by Ken St. Andre #38 of 200). 5 copies of the Corgi 5th ed. Woops... make that 6 Corgis... I forgot, I still have the rulebook and five of the solos still all wrapped together as a bundle in shrink... Total = 22 I'd have one more 5.5 and one more Corgi, but I gave those away to my cousin for Christmas last year along with some other old-school rpg stuff. All that and I still don't have a first printing or, for some strange reason, a sixth printing.

22 you do have a problem. I have 3 my Original 3rd Printing 5th [tan border], 1 [unknown] 5th [full border no print run info but got from FBI in 2003 probably], one 5.5 Box set still in Shrinkwrap haven't decided when to open it yet. It would be nice to get the Original 5th released as a PDF but so long as FBI has 5.5 in stock I think it's asking a lot. [But I probably offer at some point I'm cleaning my 5th PDF this week so it is perfecto!] -Mike

...1 [unknown] 5th [full border no print run info but got from FBI in 2003 probably]... If it has a sort of plastic-y feel and/or has the pre-folded edge close to the spine on the cover, then that's the 1991-era printing. It would be nice to get the Original 5th released as a PDF but so long as FBI has 5.5 in stock I think it's asking a lot. I don't follow. Why would that be asking a lot? But I probably offer at some point I'm cleaning my 5th PDF this week so it is perfecto! Clarify.

I don't follow. Why would that be asking a lot? But I probably offer at some point I'm cleaning my 5th PDF this week so it is perfecto! Clarify. I don't claim to know FBI/Rick feelings towards PDF's . But assuming he is leery of PDF's cutting into print sales it would follow that offering a 5th Edition ruleset would cut into 5.5 print sales since they are basically the same at the core with some stuff at the end right? I sent him "things" just to test the waters as the long PDF thread here suggested that his stance was an unknown. But assumed that the level work was probably behind his means.
I just finished "cleaning my" 5th Edition Scans and running them through Acrobat. So I have complete 5th Edition OCR'd PDF. Without the 30 years of paper age, stains, pencil marks and all the abuse that my poor original rulebook has sustained. When I hear back regarding the other PDF's I'll ask Rick if he'd like a copy of this PDF [plus I also did Dungeon of the Bear 1-3 this week.]. Basically I'm trying to preserver my collection for my son in nice clean digital formats. Most of this stuff is 30 years old now I doubt another 30 years will be kind.

Ok, that's what I figured. And, yes, it's a pity he incorrectly thinks it would cut into sales or be anything but positive. Again, I salute you for what you've done/are doing.

I concur wholeheartedly with that. I have and will buy any PDFs that go up. There are some people who only want it that way.

Also an Exalt from me! That's some great work, mgtremaine! I hope Rick is appreciative (and that he offers them for sale, although I think that's unlikely).
