So guys............. people are not exactly rushing to take over Trolls'zine but unless someone puts their hat in the ring, it is going to go under.
I have my hands full with Ordo Draconis but can help with maps and copy editing
Support your local rag or it will cease

Sorry, Ydars, I believe in the 'Zine and think it's a wonderful vehicle for exploring the depths and boundaries of T&T but all I can, and have, offer is copy editing support. I'm just not in a place in my life where I can take on such a project.

Sometimes, Prof, that's what's needed most!
I'm really considering doing it, but I have a pretty full plate myself. On the other hand, you don't ask lazy people to do things. They never have the time. You ask busy people because they know how to find the time.

Hey Prof; no need to apologise to me. It is you and everyone else who will miss out if someone doesn't step forward.
I am more than a little concerned as the Trolls'zine forum has gone quite a while without a post after Dan (Zanzhin's post). It is very worrying.
Can't we do it as a rolling thing, where people take it on once a year for a month? That way, if we spread the load, it won't be such a big thing to take on?
Can I have a list of people who might consider being editor in chief for just one issue?
The other thing we really need is a layout expert. I have several over at OD but am loath to involve them in this until I have the latest issue of OD out.
Does anyone know layout or know someone who does? I think we can cover everthing else between us?
regards
Steve

I was actually kind of thinking the same thing - taking on the committment for 2-4 issues for example.
I did my own layout using MS Word for Final Exam. I've managed to figure out most of the picture properties and am able to convert it to PDF easily enough that I can do the layout - though it won't be nearly as good as what Quog has done using applications better designed for the purpose.
My concern is making sure more than one set of eyes looks at the whole thing before publication. I work in QM, so I know the importance of it. I know this is a Fan-Zine, so imperfections aren't quite as harshly judged, but we have enough talent among us to ensure a good product.
If I take this on, I would need assurances from a number of people to help out - artists, copy-editors, layout advisors, etc.

For myself I gave it 1 year... and given the enthusiasm shown by the critics to take on the task, I'm happy with what I achieved.
I just used Pages, Apples great word-processor, no special software. Everything hand done.
With all voluntary publications there can't really be assurances, I'll submit some art, as yet undrawn.

Sligo; I think that taking on more than 2 issues is asking for trouble. It is amazing how quickly you can burnt out.
I can certainly copy-edit and do maps. I will also come up with the occasional article as well.

I think that things will work out OK - not that we should be lazy or let things slide too long - but there's plenty of talent and ability around here - the real cruncher (as I see it) is time. I'm trying to figure out how much time I'll have available in the near future. My job circumstances are stabilizing and after I move (this month) I think I'll be able to settle into a rythm, and I'd be happy to take on some editor/co-editor type tasks (collecting material, copy/proof/edit/etc, primitive layout even?) - actually, time and layout seem to be the biggest issues. Several of you have produced your own PDFs that look FANTASTIC! (sligo, danhem, hogscape, and more) - so obviously, as has been shown by these folks AND the Trollszines already published IT CAN BE DONE!!! Therefore - IT WILL BE DONE!!!

I'll contribute what I can, but I can't promise anything specific. Life just has too many ups and downs lately... meaning over about the last three years. Some extended quiet would be nice.

I can throw my hat in the ring for assistant editing and proofreading, maybe even an article. Just don't ask me to proofread my own work... major fail

Just wanted to let people know that the torch is being passed to a new generation Sligo aka W Scott Grant is your new lead editor for TrollsZine 4 and maybe beyond. All hail the chief! He has previously done sterling work on producing articles and helping copy edit others in TrollsZines 1-4. he has also produced the highly regarded T&T solo Final Exam. I apologise to contributors to number 4 for having dragged my feet with your excellent submissions. I will be emailing you individually to check you will be happy for me to pass your work on to Sligo and then doing so once i get the go ahead. I have simultaneously become very busy in my professional and home life, and my enthusiasm for the project had reduced, so it is best that I pass to other Trolls able to take this forward. I would like to thank everyone involved in TrollsZine to date. Kevin Bracey did an amazing job turning the RTF formatted articles into a real zine. We have had some superb contributors and great artists. I hope that this project will continue to thrive going forward. Who knows, Sligo may be the recipient of an odd article from me in future... Good luck guys!
