I kind of like good ol' Buffalo Castle. It's a nice solo to get started and learn how to play the game. However, the PDF file that is included on the CD in the Fiery Dragon box seems to reflect the first (1976) edition (the second, updated edition was made in 1982 with only the best illos): is that correct? There seems to be a bug in room number 12 (with the 17th level wizard). When you're done with him, the text in the PDF file (paragraph 17C) tells you to leave by the south door (go to 13C) or the east door (go to 21 D). In the 1982 book , you are told (in paragraph 2E) to leave by the south door only (5E). Which is right? And does any of you have a map? Thanks!

Sorry. Grrraall, my copy of Buffalo Castle is in the back of the 5.5 ed and only goes up to paragraph 13K. In my copy, 2E has you rolling dice to modify an attribute and 5E is a Wandering Monster room. Perhaps mine is a second edition (after looking at MGTremaine's map I'm inclined to believe it's a excerpt to get folks interested)? I know Kit ran into a bit of trouble when playing through the solo: buffalo castle error. I'm not sure that will help, though. It looks like a different paragraph. MGTremaine posted a copy of his map here (all hand drawn goodness!): Buffalo Castle Map. That's all I can offer at the moment. I can't find any other threads that are specific to Buffalo Castle.

Thank you very much indeed, Prof. I'll try to compare the 2 versions I have with the (third?) version which is at the end of the 5.5 ed., and I'll use the very accurate map by MGTremaine. The problem that Kit mentioned is just a trap. There is a point where your character has to be a coward and flee, because that foe will simply become twice as powerful whenever you kill him.

Just for the sake of thoroughness, FBI does have an errata page but Buffalo Castle isn't listed.

OK, I checked and the version of BC that you find at the end of the 5.5 edition is the same as the printed version I have (second edition, 1982). The last sentence of paragraph 2E reads: "Now leave by the south door (go to 5E)". There is no option to leave by the east door. In the PDF file, there is. I began to check with MGTremaine's map, and it matches the PDF file version. It even indicated paragraph numbers. That map is very very good. I'll ask MGTremaine if he has got any errata.

The reprint is different? Learn something new everyday. My map was based on my 13th Printing 1980 BUffalo Castle Solo. It follows the PDF with regards to the paragraph 17C - South Door goes to 13C east door goes to 21D both allow you to return to aka Room #12 with the 17th Level Wizard. -Mike PS - Thanks for the excuse to pull out Buffalo Castle, I just remembered that I love this solo.

And, Mike, have an exalt for your fantastic map! It takes a very clear mind to do that sort of things, the labyrinth inside Buffalo Castle is very tricky in its eastern part!
