A number of the early solos started with black and white covers, sometimes adding a splash of colour for later printings. Not all of these are exactly works of art: Weirdworld certainly got better, but not by much; while Dargon's Dungeon had a greatly improved black and white cover for later printings, then went to a full colour painting when the adventure was entirely revised. At present I'm trying to find out which of the earlier solos were eventually printed with full colour covers. Specifically I'm restricting this to English language versions. I believe that all of the editions published by Chris Harvey, usually in the smaller A5 format, were black and white, and all of the Corgi reprints were full colour. For the American editions I think that the change to colour right from the first printing probably happened around the time of Sea of Mystery (perhaps someone can confirm or correct that). Does anyone know whether the following ever had colour covers? - Sorcerer Solitaire
- Sword for Hire
- Weirdworld
- Goblin Lake
In all cases I have only seen printings for these with black and white or two colour covers, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. Sorcerer Solitaire is included in When the Cat's Away, of course, but I'm wondering about the standalone edition. Thanks for your help. It's a trivial thing, but it nags my curiosity

I've never seen any full colour covers for any of those. Weirdworld got a two (I think) colour version, but I don't recall ever seeing any colour covers for the others.

Yes, the version of Weirdworld with the red title and semi-circle behind the giant is the most colourful version I've seen of it too: I think it went out of print before the painted covers came along. I have a very vague memory of once seeing Sword for Hire in colour, but I'm beginning to doubt it.

I've never seen any of the US printings of those with color covers. Sword for Hire/Blue Frog Tavern as the corgi release did.

I should add Goblin Lake was a mini release. like smaller then booklet, but there was a re-release for FreeRPG day that had a full sized goblin lake color cover + short version of the rules.
