BREAKING NEWS! Monsters! Monsters! Announcement!
NOTE: This update is bigger than our Kickstarter and so we encourage all of our fans, creators and bloggers to share this news wherever they can - thank you! (Ken & Steve)
Since the last update there has been a huge event going on in the larger RPG world: Wizards of the Coast has proposed major changes to the Open Gaming License. Those changes have caused a bit of a revolt among many independent RPG publishers, many of whom have decided they plan to leave D&D's OGL behind and move on to other role-playing systems. That’s where we (Monsters! Monsters!) come in...
Monsters! Monsters! (and T&T for that matter) have always gone on their own path and have never been involved with D20, D&D or the OGL. So you wouldn’t think this would have any effect on us. However, many old school roleplaying gamers who loved D&D also enjoyed Ken’s RPGs. Some of them have come to us asking if they can publish their new projects by using and adapting the 2nd edition Monsters! Monsters rules to their projects.
Ken St. Andre has always been open to allowing other creators to be able to use his rules set for their special projects. And so, when the requests came in, we created a legal way to protect the M!M! and World of Zimrala IPs, and to allow other creators to also protect their IPs while using the M!M! rules system.
We already have a bunch of publishers and creators signed up, so let’s introduce some of them right now... (Some of them you already know!)
Sarah Newton, Mindjammer Press Ltd. Award-winning RPG writer Sarah Newton is a lifelong fan of the Monsters! Monsters! family of games, and her Mindjammer Press publishes some beautiful and fascinating RPGs (notably Mindjammer, the upcoming Chronicles of Future Earth, Capharnaum, and Monsters & Magic). She has also written for many other games, including kicking off the whole Achtung Cthulhu line with Chris Birch of Modiphius back in 2012. In her new Lair of the Leopard Empresses, Sarah has created an amazing new fantasy world adapting the Monsters! Monsters! rules! (Sarah was the first person to ask about using M!M! over a year ago)
A.J. Pickett - The Mighty Gluestick Ltd. WIth a YouTube channel of over 120K subscribers, he makes videos on the lore of roleplaying games, focused on the history, bibliography, and ecology of fantasy creatures from the entire genre, including mythology and folklore. He has been writing for the Roleplaying community for the last 20 years and loves interacting with his audience. He is now bringing every bit of his experience to craft new adventures for the M!M! rules.
Erik Tenkar - Tenkar's Tavern Gamen Erik's Tenkar's Tavern, both blog and Youtube Channel, covers the latest OSG releases, news, and chats with personalities from within gaming. He also has a number of great ideas for rpgs and adventures and now he's adding the M!M! Rules to his repertoire to do them with.
Andy Holmes - Tavernmaster Games UK creator Andy Holmes has been creating independant adventures for Ken St Andre's rpgs for over 20 years and Tavernmaster Games has been publishing them for about that long. Many consider Andy's adventure writing some of the best solo adventures you can play. They are now going to create adventrues especially for Monsters! Monsters!
And... We also have a bunch of talented creators that are working on various Monsters! Monsters! projects that we will publish with them including Stefan Jones, Debora Kerr, Jason Youngdale, David Moskowitz, Thomas Rafalski, Earl C. Hedges Jr., Thomas Pugh, Ken St Andre, Steve Crompton and numerous others.
Our team is starting to create a cooperative network to coordinate Kickstarters and releases so we aren’t stepping on each other toes, as well as finding ways to do crossovers and connect these different adventures and worlds using the M!M! rules system and the multi-portal world of Zimrala as a central “reality hub.”
We will soon have a website that will make it easier to find and connect our network together and along with our partners, we will also be announcing and releasing new Monsters! Monsters! adventures and solos, so stay tuned – we are just getting started! If YOU are a creator or small publisher that is interested in joining our "Monster Revolution" we urge you to contact us and see if there are ways we can work together. You can contact us at: trollhallapresssteve@gmail.com
We welcome your comments, questions and suggestions below - what do you think of this new era for Monsters! Monsters?...
