Glugging a load of potions to buff out stats for the dragon fight was such a game-y thing to do… potions were rightly nerfed into oblivion after this encounter. I don’t think we’ve bothered buying potions since!🤣

I don’t think we’ve bothered buying potions since!🤣 Potions are still worth having! A temporary two dice D.A.R.O. attribute buff (unless you roll 1 + 3)! (Although I think drinking more than one potion at once in a magical cocktail has more severe side-effects.)

DELVE 23.
ILL-BRED DELVERS IN PALACE GAFFE
Thursday 10th September 2020.
Campaign year: Mid-autumn 502.
Online, ca. 9.00 pm – 12.00 am.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: KANDI (Scally) 3rd level warrior; PATTI (Glyn) 1st level rogue; FERDINAND (Pippy) 1st level warrior.
Locations: Wheatfields; Chard’s Inn; Castle Ravayne.
BARTON had been overcome by dragon-sickness. Leaving him in Wheatfields, KANDI, PATTI & FERDINAND travelled south and stayed a free night at Chard’s Inn (once Mr Chard learned of their heroism and dragon-slaying).
Fabio (FERDINAND's hireling) returned on horseback with news of what befell Royston in Blessed Springs. He’d been taken prisoner, his men slain; the Prince planned to ransom him. They gave Fabio more gems & told him to go back and persuade the Prince to hold Royston prisoner for longer (donating a Charisma potion for this purpose).
Fabio left and the delvers continued south; meeting some merchants, who spoke to them of trade routes in Sokara & Golnir. At Castle Ravayne the delvers were allowed entry to the outer keep, but then persuaded the guards to allow them access to the inner keep.
During an audience with the Baroness they caused shock and disgust when they asked for a cash reward for the dragon-slaying. However, they were all knighted and granted a new mission to spy on the army of the western nation of Uttaku. They later met with the wizard Estragon, who gave them some words of warning regarding the Heart of Harkun, and also a magic orb (by which he proposed to contact them if needed).
Delve #23: Something of a turning-point, with the delvers now part of the establishment in Golnir? But new and ongoing quests always lie ahead.

DELVE 24.
PIRATES THREATEN TRADE ROUTES
"SOMETHING MUST BE DONE", LOCAL DELVERS INSIST
Tuesday 15th September 2020.
Online, ca. 8.00 pm – 11.00 pm.
Campaign year: Late autumn 502.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: KANDI (Scally) 3rd level warrior; PATTI (Glyn) 2nd level rogue; BARTON (Savage) 2nd level warrior; FERDINAND (Pippy) 2nd level warrior.
Locations: Wheatfields; Castle Ravayne; Ringhorn; Unnumbered Isles; Violet Ocean; Yellowport.
BARTON awoke in an alley in Wheatfields; he’d been thrown out of the inn and had been there for several weeks. He spoke to the proprietors of a nearby butcher’s stall and took directions to Castle Ravayne. Riding south-east by road, he met a cheerful dwarf jester and a slightly creepy storyteller.
Arriving in Castle Ravayne he met up with the other delvers and was also knighted (as SIR BARTON) by Sir Debrumas. After some small tasks at Ravayne, the delvers rode swiftly south to Ringhorn. There they bought a ship, a brigantine named "Ravayne’s Fury". KANDI (now DAME KANDI) was named as the ship’s captain (now CAPTAIN DAME KANDI). They also hired an excellent crew, led by the first mate Mr Miller. The delvers loaded their new ship to the top with grain. They put to sea and sailed generally east though the Golnirean coastal waters.
Early in the voyage they spotted the lights of a sunken city below the waves. Later, while passing the Unnumbered Isles, they were pursued by three pirate galleys; but managed to outrun them. Afterwards, they sailed into safer Sokaran waters and docked at Yellowport where they sold their cargo.
The end of a fairly brief delve #24, where the delvers took to sea in their first voyage, and we first met the legendary Mr Miller, sailor on the seas of fate.

I do so love being at sea! There’s never an admin session at sea and they are always a lot of fun as wild things tend to happen!

DELVE 25.
MARSHAL OF YELLOWPORT VANISHES
BEAST-RAMPAGE IN CORRIDORS OF POWER
Saturday 19th September 2020.
Online, ca. 9.30 pm – 12.00 am.
Campaign year: Early winter 502.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: KANDI (Scally) 3rd level warrior; PATTI (Glyn) 2nd level rogue; FERDINAND (Pippy) 2nd level warrior.
Locations: Yellowport; Scorpion Bight; Sea of Whispers; Coldbleak Mountains.
The delvers had docked their ship at Yellowport, where Barton disembarked on an urgent visit to his Sokaran uncle. In the captain’s cabin, KANDI, PATTI and FERDINAND made much discussion about their plan to assassinate Marley Marlock, the marshal of Yellowport.
Commentary: This quest was bestowed by Prince Nergan in delve #15.
They went to the governor’s palace, where they were let in by Royston, captain of the palace guard (as they were ostensibly on a mission for Marley). After a short wait in the antechamber, they were shown in to see Marley in his office, which was draped in black curtains. Marley dismissed the guards; FERDINAND engaged Marley in a lengthy & tiresome discourse while KANDI investigated the curtains (for unstated reasons).
Commentary: Last we heard, Royston was a prisoner of Prince Nergan (presumably he escaped or was ransomed).
Learning that they had not killed the Prince Nergan, Marley called the guards back in. FERDINAND continued with his oratory; KANDI grew bored and swung for Marley with her sword; missing, she smashed Marley’s desk instead. The guards attacked; PATTI & FERDINAND kept them at bay as KANDI wedged the beast-helmet on Marley’s head.
Commentary: This was one of the strange and cursed helmets that came out of the desolate land of Nerech.
Marley began to change into a beast-man; the terrified guards fled and raised the alarm. The delvers ran off; FERDINAND especially escaping capture only narrowly.
Back at the ship, all was ready and the tide was with them; they set sail. They passed an unmarked island, picked up a shipwrecked sailor; sailed around the Scorpion Bight into the Sea of Whispers and anchored somewhere off Blessed Springs.
Commentary: Blessed Springs doesn't have a harbour, so the delvers anchored off the coast and were rowed ashore.
There they went ashore & spoke to Prince Nergan in the Coldbleak Mountains. He gifted them money and the each title of King’s Champion. He asked them to visit his ally General Beledai in the northern camp and offer their service in the siege of Velis Corin. They then returned to their ship.
Commentary: Velis Corin is a Sokaran fortress that guards the northern Pass of Eagles.
Delve #25: This time the delvers grabbed quest-victory from the jaws of a horrendous fumbled Saving Roll with some quality improvisation using the cursed helmet. Well done, delvers!

This has to be one of my favourite moments in the campaign! Jamming the beast helmet onto Marlocks head and turning him into a beastman was so much more satisfying than just killing him (my original plan)! One of Kandi’s finest moments!!
Kandi carried round that helmet since before we even knew what it did… I’m glad she never tried it on, the IQ saving throw would probably have been the end of her!🤣
Once we learned of it’s powerful effect, she kept it safely stowed ready to crown some unsuspecting NPC!

DELVE 26.
HANGING OUT WITH THE DRUIDS
Wednesday 23rd September 2020.
Online, ca. 9.00 pm – 12.00 am.
Campaign year: Early winter 502.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: KANDI (Scally) 3rd level warrior; PATTI (Glyn) 2nd level rogue; BARTON (Savage) 2nd level warrior; FERDINAND (Pippy) 2nd level warrior.
Locations: Sea of Whispers; Isle of Druids; Trading Post; Old Forest; City of Trees; Gates of the World; Wishport.
At the ship the delvers met up with BARTON, who told them of the wanted posters showing their likenesses pasted up all over the countryside. They headed into the Sea of Whispers, and had a strange shared dream of the land under the sea, where KANDI played a silver flute for the King and Queen of the Deep.
They docked at the Isle of Druids, filled up the hold with furs and made a deal with the mayor of the Trading Post to look after the ship. They stayed at the Green Man inn and spoke on philosophical matters with a druid.
They headed into the Old Forest; PATTI became separated from the others and got lost. The others arrived at the gate to the City of Trees and debated with an ent to allow ent-ry. PATTI emerged, bedraggled, from the woods.
In the City, they received an oak staff from the Grand Druid, to be taken to the Forest of Larun. They then left and climbed the hill to the Gates of the World. Passing through the Wishport arch, they were whisked to Golnir.
Delve #26 saw the delvers return to the Isle of Druids for the first time since delve #1, and they made first contact with the druid subculture of the interior. But they've also left behind their ship, moored up in the harbour.

DELVE 27.
SOLO DELVING
Saturday 26th September 2020.
Online, ca. 11.00 pm till 1.00 am.
Campaign year: Midwinter 503.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: FERDINAND (Pippy) 2nd level warrior.
FERDINAND was whisked by a magical vortex into a parallel realm where he was locked in solo combat with a Monster Rating 100 wyvern, and then a Monster Rating 200 Hound of the Baskervilles. His horse was eaten by a spider; his squire by a dog. He survived, but with all gear lost and on 4 CON, before being pitched back in to the Fantastical Realms near Castle Ravayne.
Commentary: This delve was a bit of an oddity, where Pippy and I played through a vintage T&T solo – I think this was either “Sword for Hire” or "Blue Frog Tavern".

DELVE 28.
DELVERS SOLVE MINSTREL RIDDLE
Tuesday 29th September 2020.
Online, ca. 9.00 pm – 11.00 pm.
Campaign year: Midwinter 503.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: PATTI (Glyn) 2nd level rogue; BARTON (Savage) 2nd level warrior; FERDINAND (Pippy) 2nd level warrior.
Locations: Wishport; Castle Ravayne; Golnirean coast; Wishport.
PATTI & BARTON travelled from Wishport to Ravyane; engaging in a dangerous fight with some bandits on the way. Meeting FERDINAND they bought him some new equipment (after his return from the unsuccessful solo quest in another realm).
Returning to the coast & passing through Ringhorn, they met a knight looking for his lady. Pointing him in the right direction, he rewarded them with a bag of gems. Along the coast they entered a ruined castle; opening some trapped doors they were (i) burned with fire & (ii) attacked by a merciless automaton.
Heading down to the beach, they again met with the wandering minstrel Dom Daniel and answered his riddle. He offered them the choice of a chest of treasure or (more cryptically) the contents of a shell. Choosing the shell, they listened and heard the whispered wisdom of the sea (worth a fair amount of a. p.)
Commentary: The delvers last met Dom back in delve #19. His riddle was: “Hear you my riddle and read it aright/Where shall I next from my carriage alight?/It’s east of the sunset, west of the moon/North of the sea, o’erlooked by a dune/Such is the spot where we’ll make our tryst/But be prompt, for (sometimes) it doesn’t exist.”
Continuing on the road to Wishport the delvers checked into an inn in that city.
Fairly mild action this delve, but things promise to pick up soon.

DELVE 29.
EVIL BOOK FOUND IN TERROR CASTLE
Wednesday 7th October 2020.
Online, ca. 9.00 pm – 12.00 am.
Campaign year: Late winter 503.
GM: Schmee.
Delvers: KANDI (Scally) 3rd level warrior; PATTI (Glyn) 2nd level rogue; BARTON (Savage) 2nd level warrior; FERDINAND (Pippy) 3rd level warrior.
Locations: Wishport; Knucklebones Point; Castle Orlock; Magwort Fens; Monastery of Molhern; Conflass.
The delvers were in the city of Wishport. They departed and travelled east to Knucklebones Point, where they met with and befriended a band of smugglers (who told them of an expedition of travellers from Akatsurai to the nearby fens). They then headed out onto the Point, where they entered the ruined Castle Orlock.
Commentary: Akatasurai is an island group in the eastern seas ruled by samurai.
The rotten library held an evil book which held terrible secrets of wisdom. They left the Castle pursued by a lethal demon, but escaped its wrath. Fleeing into the Magwort Fens, they found a golden katana resting on a hummock (which they half-inched). From here they travelled north to the Monastery of Molhern & then headed east to the town of Conflass.
Another fairly low-key delve for #29, but I do think that quieter moments do help one appreciate the more exciting chapters.

Low-key delves are often the best for character development and interesting interactions. I’m sure I remember many a delve where we spoke to a random tat peddler on the road; plus characters like Joanie, Miller and Pickwick wouldn’t be who they are but not for low-key delves!
