Oomph Level 2 Spell Casting Cost: 5 Effect: Oomph adds 1d6 to the next saving roll that the recipient makes. DARO does not apply.
A wizard will occasionally cast Oomph on a travelling companion when said companion is about to attempt an action which will have an impact on the wizard's continued ease of travel. This typically has the effect of just a little bit of an added boost to said task. While a wizard would not deign to muddy their robes and put shoulder to the wagon to physically extricate it from a rather persuasive bog they may elect to cast Oomph to add a little extra leverage to their travelling companions efforts.

The rules are ingenious (that is, the rules which are stated). However, there are some key game-design features which are sadly lacking, and their omission (whether by oversight or intent) hampers the utility of the game. E.g. "spite" probabilities, a figurative "Monster Manual" for reference, various ways of building a monster from the simple (MR only) to the most complex (statting them out as if they were PCs or NPCs with full stat blocks, behavioral notes), etc. Hopefully, the new IP-holders will redress these deficiencies. Spite wasn't added to the rules until 5.5, spite probabilities were irrelevant through 5.0 MR got a pretty relevant discussion in 5.0. The idea of balance is pretty much counter to how Ken seems to run T&T; listening to the audio recording from back when FB was still in full force... yeah. Balance? What balance? As a relative noob to T&T (I only found out about it beginning the in 2000's with my entry into the cyber-world), I am surprised that I had not heard a peep about its existence in the 70s or through the 80s and 90s. I guess this is because FB only had so much capital to invest in the all-important advertisement, promotion, "elevation of the profile", etc. My path to T&T was slow, tho I found it via a friend in 1987 - but I was one of those 65 on Trollhalla. I didn't have much to say on it. By the time I first encountered T&T, I'd played & run a dozen games, some for multiple editions. T&T has never been my primary game; it has often been the pickup game. I've never gotten a 5.x party above 6th level, nor a 7th+ past level 3, save the one guy who got insanely lucky in a Free RPG Day demo and started with a 6th level paragon. (All rolls made in my view with my dice using a dice cup.) I never found the lack of advice on MR selection a big issue, but that is largely due to the solos I played having pre-set MR scores. I absorbed the relative ratios from that.
