Hi folks, Can anyone recommend mapping tools either on-line or downloadable, suitable for creating overland maps and/or dungeons? Cheers

I purchased Dundjinni, and a couple of the content packs. I could not recommend it, the results are good but the user interface is very clunky. It's D&D focused. I went back to a pen and paper.

Probably the quickest and easiest, are the old and still available version 1.41 of DungeonCrafter. Get it HERE. And don't forget to get some Old-School Tiles Right Here (Click on the DC1 link on the far right, there.) Land stuff. If you want the land maps to look like the maps in the D&D Rules Cyclopedia or the TSR Gazatteers and you want to do it real quick then it's hard to beat HexMapper. You'll likely have to look around a lil bit for it. There's a newer version of it called AKS Adventure Writer that has more tools, but I've never been able to even get the thing istalled on my machine. Maybe you'll have better luck. If you can't find the files, give me a shout. I'm already part of the Hexmapper Haven Yahoo Group and can grab 'em quick. If you want to join youself just be aware that it regularly takes them months to accept folks.

HERE'S a good example of what can be accomplished with HexMapper and some tweaking in Photoshop (though the free GIMP could certainly be substituted or perhaps Paint.NET).

Thanks A of E - Hexographer is perfect for my needs. I used CC for a year or two when it was free with the AD&D disc (or a stripped down version at least). It would probably take me a loong time to get back into it. Hexographer hower, seems to be a breeze (roads too)! Thanks again.

It's pretty slick. If you like hex grids, it's a beaut. (I still wound up doing mine in CC3...)
The D&D version of CC was not very good; CC2 is far better, and CC3 is more intuitive (but still not very)...
I love CC for deckplans, tho'.

Oh, I forgot about Hexographer. It's exactly like HexMapper, except online. Since it's so similar I liked it a lot, but it was always dragging, whereas HexMapper was extremely fast. I dunno if it was the server or my internet connection. Likely the latter.

It is java, tho, and Jva isn't overly fast.

Way it works: you log in to it, it d/ls to your browser and runs on your machine. When you exit, it deletes itself (but not the save files). Now, being Java, it's always going to be slower than an equivalent compiled program for your architecture, but not too much slower.

Oh, I gotcha now. Ok.
Well, thank goodness I have HexMapper then, cuz that dragging was annoying.
