I noticed some interest in Gladitorial combat. Does anyone remember the T&T solo ""Arena of Khazan" by Ken St. Andre?

I love Castles & Crusades. The problem is I got most of my gamegroup into RPGs with D20 3.0 D&D. To them C&C doesn't have enough options to build broken ubermunchkin characters.
Oh excuse me.. MAKING A CHARACTER YOUR OWN.
I've had the same unfortunate luck with Basic D&D and Swords & Wizardry.

Obviously C&C is a successful product - there is so much material available for the game; and I was really excited when it first appeared... but what a disappointment. The authors chose to adopt an early Gygaxian style of writing with the popous verbosity setting stuck on 11.
Why ruin a game with so much potential?

I'm not a big fan of D20 ( D20 Modern is an OK game, I guess..........), but if I was going to be a PLAYER in a campaign I'd just go along with the Ref as to what system he wants to run- saying I trusted the ref to provide the kind of story/adventure/world/Etc. I would be willing to play in in the first place. If I'M running the game, I expect the players to play the system I want to run at the time; it seems a bit one sided if I can't give that consideration back. There ARE a few systems I just don't think I could stomach; if a GM was running one of those, I'd just politely bow out. But really, that's a pretty small group of games. As a player, I can be pretty happy with whatever system a GOOD GM wants to run.

I've long wanted to like C&C. Most of it I do, but, I agree with Hogscape in that I think it's far more dense and wordy than it needed to be. Plus, the font in the books is way too small and everything looks and feels...crammed.
I like it's attitude and practicality while still remaining both old and new-school, and I like the Siege Engine fine, but, man...why the massive and looonnng AD&D-type spell descriptions? Ugh.

Wispy - I played (a pre-generated character, I didn't have the 14 hours it took to roll one up my self) in a game of Rifts (Palladium) a few years ago. Terrible, terrible, awful system. Great GM and therefore, great game!

Hi, Does anyone know about the Basic Fantasy RPG? I would appreciate your comments.

I wrote an adventure for it which can be downloaded at the game's official site, but, sadly, I don't really know all that much about it. All my clone-love goes into Labyrinth Lord and Mutant Future. I've liked the little I've read though. It strikes me as Classic D&D without race-classes and it possesses an ascending AC table........ Its creator posts as "Solomoriah" over at Dragonsfoot. He's a heck of a nice guy (but don't let him know I said that............) and easily personable. If I wanted to know about BFRPG, I'd go over there and ask him. Its FREE, BTW. Why not just download it and read it?
