Wow! That was a great read and they are still showing love towards the classic game and are actively encouraging people to buy from Drive Thru or directly through the new Flying Buffalo website! This is a good sign and I'm glad to see that they still stock Nuclear War! I love that game! I backed that Kickstarter years ago and even though I only received only part of what I backed for, what I got is still a very fun game!!! So, it's all good! Glad to see you can still purchase material for the game direct from them still! They're "not certain how the new edition will play" - that's essentially code for "we are probably using different mechanics."

Can you give a specific quote that's new? It all looks like older, previously-released statements to me. the third party and fan creation portion is more definite than prior. Given that these are the same guys who own the rights to 2000AD (including Judge Dredd)...

I cannot remember myself, but this looks promising, and I am sure we would have noticed it before... And as Aramis of Erak of Erak mentions...

Or, it could be that they're not sure which pieces and parts of all the previous editions they will - or can - use. I'd bet money that Rebellion's T&T will be compatible with previous editions.

I expect "readily convertible" instead of actual compatibility. Quite likely a change in how combat is resolved in order to reduce the math time for mid-levels (4-7) play. T&T's biggest flaw is the amount of chain addition in mid-level combat with suitably large piles of MR foes....

Any updates about Rebellion and the T&T IP? I can't find anything new on their website. I am curious to see what they do with the IP.

Neither Ken St Andre, myself or any other T&T designers that we know of have had heard anything from Rebelion other than a nice "Hi we own T&T now - don't worry." message we got from them back in May 2023. So we don't have any new info or even rumors as to what they are doing or when/if some new T&T products will be out. Meanwhile Ken St Andre and I continue to expand and work on the Monsters! Monsters! RPG with other ex-flying buffalo folks and other T&T authors, artists and publishers.
That's all we know...

The longer the silence, the more I expect mechanical changes.
It's worth noting that a number of European publishers have bought or licensed old games' rights, then adapted them to totally new or significantly altered game engines.
Cubicle 7 (TOR 2e, WFRP4, Imperium Maledictum) Free League (T2K 4e, Drakar och Demoner aka Dragonbane) Ulissies Spiel (Space 1889, Warhammer W&G {40K}) Mongoose (Traveller, Judge Dredd, Judge Dredd, Babylon 5, Babylon 5) - used to be part of Rebellion.
Those are all Euro - there are a couple US companies that have done so, too - Fantasy Flight Games (WFRP 3, Star Wars, Legend of the 5 rings 5th) - noting that SW and L5R have been passed onward to Edge Studios in Spain.
Oh, and those doubles on Mongoose? Yeah, they did two different engines. One being d20, one being Traveller based.

A change of core mechanic (from dice pools to ?) may be a blessing -- esp. when it comes to throwing and counting up ridiculous piles of D6s. I wouldn't be interested in a d20 version of T&T, and even less keen on a 2D20 system (IIRC Conan went from d20 to 2d20), but a simple 2D6 (8 or better) system, a la Classic Traveller may be an interesting change.
I'm more afraid socio-politically motivated alteration to appease a vocal, disruptive minority-group -- or for IP holders to cave to such. D&D underwent such changes at TSR due to the Satanic Panic (something I had to live through, and still cringe at the memory thereof). However, on the other hand "Yassa Massa" had to go IMHO.

The change I'd expect would not be reducing the number of dice, but changing to a simple count successes method.

Their method of counting "successes" is a table result based upon how far over the TN your modified roll is. That roll is always and only a single d10.
