I'm another who didn't really do much deep dive into the lore... until 7th, at least, because it included the computer game.

I do hope that they produce something "cheap and cheerful" in keeping with classic T&T's low page count/pamphlet style everyman approach and avoid the temptation to publich the game in big expensive hardback splat books - such would not be in keeping with T&T's DIY ethos, IMO and YMMV of course. Sadly, the "big expensive hardback" books are current-day the norm for the industry. Long gone are the "three little brown/black books" (LBBs) of ages past, or a ziplock baggie with someone's photostatted homebrew game with cardboard chits and such. The DIY charm of the hobby has been replaced with big, corporate, back-breaking tomes that are glossy blunt-instruments.

a ziplock baggie with someone's photostatted homebrew game with cardboard chits and such. Sounds like about 80% of my gaming library.

My favourite RPG of recent years is Maze Rats which is basically half a dozen pages you print out, fold and staple together to make a little rulebook. But that's perhaps a step too far for T&T. I think Ken and Steve hit the right spot with how they did Monsters! Monsters" 2nd ed. I would buy Rebellion T&T if it's something along those lines. A £40/50 hardback? I wouldn't bother.

Just taken a look at Maze Rats, seems very interesting. Very simple core rules (with something of the flavour of the old Fighting Fantasy system, one of which I'm working through currently) but lots of lovely tables to get the creative juices flowing. Thanks for putting me on to it.

I must confess, I'm not. It was only that I saw a couple of the books in a charity shop recently.
Looks as though the price has gone up for the new edition.

Are you familiar with Advanced Fighting Fantasy? I have the game (but not Maze Rat, or Troika). Why do you ask?

Incredibly simple, classless, enough customisation for players to enjoy fine-tuning their character, 3 different magic types, massive nostalgia for gamers of a certain vintage, great art from the FF books. I did a homebrew of it for running games set in Greek mythology which my group at the time really enjoyed. Definitely a game worth having on your shelf.

Thanks for putting me on to it. Speaking of Maze rats: I use their tables, or Oracel, to handle unplanned situations while playing; I think it's better and more to the point than Mythic. The game per se is well written also, Maybe I wil try it with a local group if I have the chance.

Sorry - was thinking of the 2011 edition as the "new" version. Anything that moves faster than a glacier is a bit quick for me these days.
