I read your blog with interest, and I'm looking forward to posts about your future solo delving. I thought the layout was fine; when i read a book I do not mind the cover, idem for a blog, apparently. Keep up good work!

Ah, and if you start with Buffalo castel, I think that you do not have to worry about spoilers. We all know and love it.

Best of luck to Meathead, Goofball, Redneck and Dumbass! I can personally relate to them dropping off their military carriers. I'm lookin forward to see how long they will last...

Thanks for the "Varied Levels"! See if I make it long enough to get to those...what I might do is see if I can get my guys thru that, then exit, go a few other solos and then "Buffalo Castle: Revisited" (find the "varied levels"). It'll allow me to test something I want to write about which is re-playability. Perhaps, they find a clue that there is another level, so they go back. I want to see what a good length of time might be to forget what's there for the most part and re-delve.

trolletgunnar, thank you kindly for following along and the encouragement for the blog! I have the boys "officially" named today and I'm ready to do up their cards and post those later this afternoon...have a session of Deluxe here in about an hour with my gang, then see what I can do!
Hello Sweden too! (two of my favorite bands are from your neck-of-the-woods: Candlemass and Count Raven!!)

Yes, probably best to play original first, for old time's sake!

I want to see what a good length of time might be to forget what's there for the most part and re-delve. I played Deathtrap Equaliser in 1978 and I still have nightmares about it.

Oh yea, that's coming up for my gang...I think I will indeed run "Buffalo Castle" first. For one thing, if I recall (and it's been decades!), I can send all of my guys in, not just one...I got the first character card up, and have the other three to finish out armor and weapon wise, drawing their sketches, etc.

It is the first solo created, and a pioneer for a unique way of play RPGs...
I think BC is my favourite solo...

It's cool the fact that Rick Loomis did that one too. He mainly gets thought of as the distributor and producer in a sense, but I think that's a nice part of the history.

[Insert 750 words on just how important Buffalo Castle was in other ways such as not taking itself so seriously, breaking the fourth wall, having players write in the text for future characters, the "cheater" paragraphs. It's equally mind blowing just how much range there was over the first four solos. (And yes, almost too much from a brand/marketing/business perspective in terms of them gaining traction among players looking for a commitment to a game, but still...just wild.) ]
I find it wild (for a lot of reasons) that Rick Loomis, as writer and publisher respectively of Buffalo Castle and Nuclear War could be considered the greatest influence of my own creative work.

There was certainly great variety in the first four solos. While they aren't perfect, the sheer randomness gives them great replay value. It was a closer approximation of how my friends and I used to play in the early days (because we didn't know any better).

Great tip, houndle...based on what you are saying, I think I'll play the first four in order, then I think I'm going to run a surprise or two that I have in mind. I have a fairly complete collection of the solos, but have intentionally waited to run them, mainly doing group play over the last few years.

Well this thread and your new blog inspired me to get out Deathtrap Equalizer for the first time in many years. It's more fun than I remember.
When I first played it, literally a millennium ago, I was just starting out and didn't really have a handle on how the game worked.
There are still a few things I would ideally have wanted to change, but the sheer variety and chaos proved quite addictive. I found myself constantly thinking, "I'll just try one more Frog trip before I go and brush my tooth..."
**Edit** So I gave Slobbo the Slayer "just one more" outing after breakfast. Sadly, he didn't make it.
