I have had a quick glance and I have to say I'm mightily impressed. I'm about to fire a sizzling Exalt in your direction for uncovering it. Thank ye sir!

Far further afield than what we've been discussing. Also, no open license. There are several open licenses out there: Wizards OGL Creative Commons GNU FDL And at least two open supplement licenses. BTRC EABA OSL Wizards 4E GSL And one further thought at Machfront: There is a big difference between a 5.5 GAME and the 5.5 BOOK. I'm after the 5.5 GAME, which is pretty much generally agreed to be using the 3pp of Ken's House Rules as rules added on to the 5.0 rules, and superceding the affected mechanics. You can play the 5.0 game out of the 5.5 book. If you do some wayback-fu, you can even get KHR and play 5.5 with a 5.0 book and a printout of KHR. Why was it done that way? I'm not certain, but I'll hazard a theory: speed to press. It's bloody fast to optically duplicate the plates from old editions. It's bloody slow to scan, OCR, edit, relayout, adjust, and integrate the rules changes. Rick needed a new printing quick, ken wanted some stuff changed, and the fan base in contact with ken generally supported the move to SP and WZ as primes, and spite damage, and some form of skill/talent/career system.

"Labyrinth Lord" even kept the things nobody thought were a good idea, like reduced stats for females & level caps for non-humans? ( Unless your a bloody Elf of course ) Nope, OSRIC did not. LL wouldn't because LL is based on the 1981 Moldvay Basic and Cook/Marsh Expert D&D specifically, which didn't have such things.

Of course those 'alternate' rules are not 'clone rules' but they are mighty fine.

Bdfiscus - are they yours? I didn't spot the author's credit. If so, I have a few questions...

Nope, not mine; just found them on scribd while looking for the Free RPG Day T&T rules...
I was hoping to find one with the cover; since DTRPG and RPGNOW have a version WITHOUT the cover (WHY !?)
I will ask the uploader if he is or knows the author.

I believe you can find the scan of the cover on a lot of websites. I'm not sure how good print quality they will be though (if that's your intent). I just know I've seen them on various places such as Boardgamegeek. Well, the 2007 one with Goblin Lake. I don't have Take the Money and don't know what it looks like, if, I am correct, in that Money is the Free RPG 2008. Edit: This one? (that's what mine looks like) or This one?

Yes... exactly the reason !! (coverless pdf's look like ARSE !) ;D I think I may use this at the cover - luckily I have a comb binding machine at work - so it will look pretty sweet: forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/Tunnels%20and%20Trolls%20Garen%20Ewing%20Ken%20St%20Andre.jpg I will stretch the picture slightly and trim off the very top and bottom; of course ! A little info about the cover from the interview with the artist - from the website I found the picture on: "GE: Ken St Andre had long been planning a sixth edition, and when the game was given a new lease of life thanks to the Internet, Flying Buffalo, the publishers, agreed to print it. Ken asked me to do the cover, which I was delighted to do, but then the idea just seemed to fade away over the months. Fan-boy me took over, I didn’t formalise the agreement and I didn’t chase up the fee that had been mentioned, despite the hours spent on the artwork, something I would definitely do these days. I believe a seventh edition has since come out, so the game does still live on, which is great to see. I think without the Internet it would have faded away completely." How cool would it be if Garen gave permission to use the art for the "Trollbridge - 5E Forever" ( or whatever the eventual title turns out to be) rpg ?

Admittedly, that does look a lot better than the original artwork on the Free RPG Day booklets. But, I'm rather nitpicky. I'd be printing out the covers that go with the book, as opposed to that one.

Thanks VERY much for posting the two free rpg day covers ! I will use the goblin lake cover for the free rpg day 2007 book pdf I have; but though I like the other one very much; I have been unable to find a pdf of the free rpg day 2008 rules... Galens cover will go on the outside of my T&T three ring binder though ; currently holding my free rpg day 2007 book, the freedungeons T&T rules in pdf form; my "dark isles" 4th edition rules; and some hobgoblins tavern adventures !

bdfiscus, Thanks so much for finding and posting that jpg of Garen's cover art! The biggest version I'd ever found was 300x425 (as opposed to this one being 450x637). I've long loved that art. I remember spying it online back in about maybe...'99 or 2000 and, though I was still at the point that I disliked T&T, at the time I took it as a good sign that the game would be released in a big, 'new-n-improved' version. (little did I know) EDIT: In fact, have an Exalt on me. ;D
